Terrifically well done boyees! Living in Australia, this is how the Aussies will handle this: they will report it but grudgingly. When they win, it feels like the news is repeated every five minutes but when they lose - in any game - they may report it for the first part of the morning, maybe in the evening, and it will never be mentioned again. The Aussies are very sports mad, proud, like us and hate to lose, like us, so I know they'll be in mourning. Expect them to come back all guns blazing in the next test.

Hi Doberman
I wonder how long it takes on average for a SAFA to acclimatise to such an extent to fancy the new homeside ? In all fairness I think it should happen as the new homeland has offered one the chance to a hopefully better future.
Good question. I've spoken to people, my in-laws for instance from England that have lived in SA since 1970 and they still root for England whenever SA play England. Yet the love SA.
It can't be helped. I think we are conditioned since youth to fancy a side. It's the same with the Boks. Once a Bok supporter, always a Bok supporter. I do notice that when Aus plays another team other than SA, I do support the Aussies but not with the same passion.
One wants to be more supportive but I suppose it takes time to build loyalty and passion. I wonder if it will ever come. Being grateful for a country for taking you in does not automatically transfer one's passions to its teams.
I think it has a lot to do with age - just like picking up the accent. My kids all sound like Aussies - but I never will (in my 40's). You have to be in early to mid teens to fully pick up the accent. I suspect the same applies to what you call "home". My kids regard themselves as Australians. I know I'm Australian but will always think of SA as "home".
Left SA at age 36, been an Aussie for 9 years now. I fully support Oz in all sport, but well done to the Proteas for a magnificent win.
What I find disgusting is the lack of loud and proud publicity of the brilliant win in the SA MSM. Cricket too white for the ANC ?
Don't get me wrong guys. I have adopted Aus as my new home lock, stock and barrel and am very supportive of that magnificent country but when it comes to sports teams, I s'pose one's heart is another thing. It is, like you say, picking up the accent, it doesn't change. However, like I also said, when Aus plays other countries, I wear the Aus regalia at matches etc and 100% behind them. This dog is too old to switch allegiances on that score but my kids are becoming more Aussie with every passing day and the day will come when we face each other supporting different sides when Aus meets SA.
