Elderly man killed in Pretoria

An elderly man was murdered by a robber in his home in Lynnwood Glen, Pretoria, police said on Wednesday.

Captain Colette Weilbach said the man's neighbour was contacted by the victim's wife shortly after the attack on Tuesday evening.

The neighbour who rushed to the house found both the husband and wife in a pool of blood. The husband, aged between 75 and 80, was dead.

The wife told her neighbour that an unknown man gained entry, held them up with a knife and demanded money from them.

But after the couple gave the robber money he stabbed the husband. The wife fought back with pepper spray but was also stabbed.

The robber ran off with cash and jewellery. The injured woman was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition. Police are investigating a case of house robbery and murder.
