This place has really lost the plot.
This morning I'm listening to the news when they tell the story about a bunch of armed robbers getting involved in a shootout with the cops on the N3 highway. Lots and lots of bullets buzzing about they say. Anyway, this is not the point of the story - this has become such a common place occurrence that its not really news in itself.
But - Two R5 rifles were found in possession of the robbers. R5 rifles are issued exclusively to the SA Police Service. The army uses R4s. Very little difference, except the R5 has a folding stock, and I think a slightly shorter barrell. These are assault rifles firing 5,56mm NATO rounds capable of doing around 800 bullets a minute on full auto. Now - the million dollar question. How did these police issue machine guns end up in the hands of robbers? Mmmmh? Mmmhhh?
This got me to thinking about my army days. Guns were seriously strictly controlled.
They were sent to the various units where they were issued to us. Every rifle had a serial number - even today - and for every rifle issued, your details were taken and recorded.
The idea of losing a rifle was so incredibly serious that it wasn't even a possibility. Stealing another bloke's rifle didn't even enter our minds coz it was such an outlandish concept. Come to think of it, we didn't even discuss it - ever! And before you reckon we were a bunch of wimps, nope, not at all. There were some really bad news scum and punks with us. I won't bother to regale you with a few stories about these characters, but just take my word for it - the Army was the great leveller.
The fact is that prior to the great nightmare of ninety four, these type of attacks were totally unheard of. And with police machine guns? Unthinkable!
So to get to the point. The cops are supposed to have an officer in charge of the armoury or at least the guns safes where these rifles are supposedly kept under lock and key. Each rifle is signed out as the cop goes on duty, as well as the number of bullets, and the rifle and bullets is supposed to be checked when the cop comes off duty.
The firearms and bullets have to be checked every now and again - in other words, the armoury must be audited to make sure they are there.
In the past, very many police issue firearms have been confiscated from criminals. These guns have serial numbers and it should be easy to check where they come from. Lets be charitable and assume the serial numbers have been obliterated. Fact is, there are police firearms missing from somewhere.
Conclusion? Cops in charge of firearms are not doing their jobs. They are not checking the return of the guns and even worse, their bosses are not auditing their armouries. Why not you ask? Well, the principle of accountability is foreign to the SBG's mind. It is just not done - instead there is the concept of entitlement. I'm entitled to it just because I'm black.
So basically, our useless cops are aiding and abetting the criminals in their lethal actions.
The second armouries are audited with the strictness they deserve and strong action taken against those lazy and corrupt cops, I'll bet we see a dramatic decrease of these type of crimes.
Why does our mainstream media not shine their collective spotlight on this clear dereliction of duty? I can only guess... And don't forget those assholes at Gun Free SA. Instead of disarming law abiding citizens, they should start their libby crap with the cops...
