Rabid ANC mobs return to SA politics

The ANC has ended all pretence of being democratic. Now that they are threatened, they return to the party of thugs and terrorists they have always been.

As long as no one threatened their dominance, as long as they had the upper hand, they played 'democracy' but in truth it was just a one-party 'democracy'. Faced with a genuine opposition, the old mantra of threats and intimidation has returned.

South Africa's 'democracy' can never be secure unless and until the ANC accepts that losing power is the way of a democracy and begins to accept that dissension to its views must be respected. The rest of us can resist the intimidatory tactics by
the ANC and attend rallies, meetings etc to demonstrate our defiance.

The ANC greybeards need to prove that they have wisdom, along with with their wealth.

'Kill
Lekota, kill Shilowa’ cried the rabid mob of ANC supporters protesting at Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg. Former defence minister Mosiuoa “Terror” Lekota was speaking at a rally organised to test support for his plan to form a political party to challenge the ANC.

Lekota had to be escorted into the venue by armed police.

Inside the hall he preached tolerance. Outside, the chants continued, threatening death and mayhem to those who would join Lekota’s breakaway party.

Earlier this week, two DA members were assaulted by people purporting to be ANC supporters in Mogoba informal settlement, east of Johannesburg.

This behaviour is contrary to the values enshrined in our constitution.

The Bill of Rights states: “Every citizen is free to make political choices, choices that include the right to form a political party; to participate in the activities of, or recruit members for, a political party; and to campaign for a political party or cause.”

These are the values the ANC has stood for for decades. But no longer — it seems.

First, Julius Malema and Zwelinzima Vavi vow to “kill for Jacob Zuma”— threatening to “crush” and “eliminate” anyone standing in the way of the Zuma tsunami.

Then Angie Motshekga calls Lekota and Shilowa “dogs”. It follows that, because Auntie Angie has dehumanised Lekota and Shilowa in the minds of ANC supporters, they now want to kill “the dogs”.

The greybeards in the ANC leadership need to prove that they have accumulated some wisdom, along with their wealth, and stop the irresponsible and dangerous rhetoric now.

Or else the Zuma tsunami will become a tidal wave of bloodshed.

It’s time for the rabid Zuma supporters to grow up and wise up or shut up.
