Young women shot at garage, dies

Life is cheap in South Africa.

You put on your shoes in the morning and you are dead by the afternoon.

Think about that tomorrow morning when you leave your house.

And think about it too when the next 'Million Man March' is organised.

Apathy has a price.

A 24-year-old woman was shot dead and another was seriously wounded in a hijacking in Durban's Amanzimtoti area on Saturday, police said.

A third woman was uninjured.

The three Hillcrest women "all in their mid-20's" were on their way to a camp on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast for the long weekend when the incident took place at 3.40pm.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Danelia Veldhuizen said the women had stopped their white Volkswagen Polo at a BP service station in Amanzimtoti to change drivers.

"But before they could alight from the car, they were shot," she said.

The driver, 24-year-old Jennifer Hall died at the scene.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said, "The second woman was shot in the pelvis and is in a serious condition at a hospital."

Veldhuizen said the second woman was identified as Kate Flemming.

The third woman in the back seat, Amy Landol was uninjured.

Police said the suspects escaped with the car and no arrests had been made.

It was unclear if any of the service station staff had attempted to intervene during the incident or helped the women.

Yeah, Right!! Inspector Mpoopoo was in hot persuit when he had to stop for a pee. When he finished, he found his bicycle stolen. The police have as much chance of catching these animals as I have of becoming king of England. I have read of this tragedy in a few places now. Utterly beyond words. Thanks Mandela & FW.
