A senior Eastern Cape education official has been earning nearly R1million in the past two years by sitting at home and not doing a stroke of work.

Photograph by: THEO JEPTHA Queenstown education district chief education specialist Mzwandile Bula has been paid his salary of R36 000 each month – despite last working in April 2008.
So far, Bula has “earned” R936 000 – and he claimed civil servants being paid for not working was widespread within the Education Department.
Both Bula and the provincial Education Department confirmed he had not been suspended and had simply stayed away from work.
