Some pics taken in Durban about 5 months ago. Isn't the Rainbow nation great? Errr, spot the white anyone? Where's the "Rainbow Nation?" Where are the ubiquitous white liberals who fill our daily MSM columns with all the glories of diversity and the melting pot of SA? And why is it, when you get down to the hard wire and the nitty gritty of daily life, that these countless thousands of rainbow dabblers disappear like ghostly mist in the sun?
More importantly, are you one of them?
It's easy to find out if you are a liberal white hypocrite, and if you aren't one, how to spot one. It's in the rhetoric contained here in my spoof street interview of two white people. I will be the first to admit it contains false dichotomies, but somehow, I think a lot of truth as well.
Liberals can be more slippery than a barrelful of eels, but if you listen carefully, they give themselves away. People who live in Ivory Towers shouldn't stoop to pick up the soap they wish to cleanse the rest of us with! Feel free to add to this list in the comments if you wish...
Q1: If you were in Durban on Christmas day or new Years day, did you spend the day on the beach?
A1: I couldn't get in if I tried, it was chokka-blok full with black bodies!
A2: I was going to go, but I got side-tracked taking photos of the new soccer stadium under construction which I posted on my blog to show the world what a great country SA is!
Q2: If you attended the rugby match at Orlando stadium between the Bulls and the Crusaders, how did you enjoy the experience and was it a hassle to go into Soweto?
A1: I'm a rugby nut, I'll go wherever the match is being played, even if it's at the bottom of Kimberley's Big Hole!
A2: It was excellent, my friends and I spent the whole time taking photos of each other hanging with blacks so I could post them on my blog to show the world how warm and fuzzy race relations really are in SA!
Q3: Do you enjoy rugby and how do you see the role it plays in the New South Africa?
A1: Rugby is my birth, my life, my death! Finish and klaar.
A2: It is the lubricant to social harmony and the link with soccer will elevate our cultural discourse to new heights! Erm, rugby is that game played with the odd shaped ball right?
Q4: How often do black friends and colleagues of all colours pop in to your weekend braai?
A1: It is my lapa, my swimming pool, my palisade fence, my pit bull and rottie. If they are looking for BIG shit they are welcome to try!
A2: Oh, every weekend Fina, our house help, joins us - Fina brought up little Morne' you know - We also had a company braai with our black colleagues at work and as the sun set we relaxed and Sipho started playing his guitar. We all held hands and sang Kumba-Yah around the flickering embers. I've posted some wonderful photo's on my blog to show the world!
Q5: Have you ever been to visit and socialise with black families and friends in a township, and if so, how did you find the experience?
A1: I did riot patrols in 1985. I was too busy stopping the blacks from killing each other and burning the place to the ground to do much socialising.
A2: I was apprehensive at first (Just a teensy bit scared) but a few black colleagues convinced me to go one Saturday. It was wonderful! In fact, it was like a religious experience! I have never been the same, it was like being born again. I really can't stop gushing about the experience and I recommend all whites to take the plunge and go!!!! You should see the great photos I posted on my blog!
Q6: Have you ever been to a black township shebeen to socialise?
A1: We broke up a tavern brawl while on patrol in 1988. Man, you have no idea how it smelled in there! Worse than Sodom and Gomorrah! You ask if I've socialised there? Fuck no!
A2: Goodness me no! I'm a teetotaller, I've never touched alcohol! But I'm sure it would be a lovely experience and there would be some great photos I could post on my blog to show the world what a lovely country SA is!
