Woman raped, assaulted, robbed in Port Alfred

Too young to blame Apartheid ...

Port Alfred - A 67-year-old woman was raped and severely assaulted after two men broke into her home in Nemato, Port Alfred, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.

Captain Mali Govender said the woman was asleep at her home, when two men broke in on Monday and stole a DVD player.

"One of the suspects was known to the victim. As the suspects left the scene, another two suspects robbed them of the DVD player and got into the home of the victim.

"They then allegedly raped victim, beat her with a spade and a slasher and made off with her television set as well as the garden tools that they assaulted her with."

She suffered injuries to her head and her upper body.

"A few hours after the incident, two suspects were arrested and taken into custody.

"In the early hours of Tuesday morning with the assistance of the community, another two suspects were arrested. They are aged between 15 and 18 years of age."
