Despite deepening inequality and endemic corruption in South Africa, support remains high for the ANC.

A socio-political survey released this week by Ipsos Markinor says the ANC has succeeded in consolidating and building its support among South Africans despite its failure to achieve a two- thirds majority during the April elections.

The ruling party celebrated its 98th anniversary in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape, this weekend.

The ANC’s support stands at 71% among eligible voters, according to the survey.

Mary Harris, a director at Ipsos Markinor, said 3500 respondents chose a party from a ballot paper similar to the one used during the elections .

Those who chose the ANC were mainly black, showing that the ruling party still draws more than 90% of its support from blacks.

The survey also found that President Jacob Zuma’s ratings have improved over the past six months from 6.1 out of 10 to 7.6 out of 10.

The survey noted a dramatic increase in ANC support from minority groups such as Indians, coloureds and whites.

I gave this article a rating of 1. Viking this is not a reflection on you, of course, rather an expression of how sick it made me.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Actually the ANC supporters are waiting for the Zimbabwe style revolution that they know the ANC will eventually provide.

FE, I second that, it makes me ill to think the ANC's popularity appears to be unshakeable. And Zuma's is going up! I couldn't locate the zero rating button though, so I had to give it a 1...

Yeah, but the post is good in highlighting the problem with "democracy" where you have minorities and a corrupt, uneducated, brainwashed majority.

I've said it before - corrupt, vile thieving thugs in Africa will never learn as long as the west (read the white man) bails them out with aid and prevents snot-nosed pot-bellied kids from starving. Where is the lesson?

Why the hell do you think Bob Geldof did not want to do Live 8? He knew exactly what lessons they learnt and how ineffective Western aid was at providing a long-term solution after his Live Aid campaign.

What a pity we can't move all the liberal bigots to Africa and get the white South Africans to first world countries. You'll sort the problem in 10 years, because without stupid white liberals to support corrupt African governments, these cesspools would self-destruct in the blink of an eye...

The rating I gave was also 1 - not because of the posting but because of the contents. That's the rating I give the ANC!
