Nobel prize for President Obama is a shocker.

He should turn it down.

They could have awarded it to Kylie Minogue and I wouldn’t have been half as surprised as I am watching the television screens around me proclaiming that Barack Obama has been awarded the 2009 Nobel peace prize. The whole business of a bunch of Scandinavian worthies doling out the profits of a long-gone dynamite maker’s fortune has always smacked of the worst sort of self-satisfied plutocratic worthiness. But this takes the biscuit. President Obama remains the barely man of world politics, barely a senator now barely a president, yet in the land of the Euro-weenies (copyright PJ O’Rourke) the great and the good remain in his thrall. To reward him for a blank results sheet, to inflate him when he has no achievements to his name, makes a mockery of what, let’s face it, is an already fairly discredited process (remember Rigoberta Menchu in 1992? Ha!). That’s not the point. What this does is accelerate the elevation of President Obama to a comedy confection, which he does not deserve, and gives his critics yet another bat to whack him with. Shame on the Norwegians. He should turn it down, even if he does look great in white tie and tails.

I also don't see what Obummer has done to deserve the win. Maybe continuing to wage two wars won the day for him. But the real unexplainable thing is, he was nominated for the prize just 2 weeks into his presidency. If that isn't putting idol worship above common sense in the extreme, I don't know what is.

Hey I am happy as hell for Obummer, it was a great win and extremely well deserved. After all he did do......., errr, oh yeah, he also stopped........hmmmm, I know he said that..........ok, yes, he did bow and apologize... ....he also ended both the Irak and Afghan wars, what's that? They're still going on?............ ok, but then there was that treaty, errr, which one was it again????

Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, who won the prize in 1984, said Obama's award shows great things are expected from him in coming years.

"It's an award coming near the beginning of the first term of office of a relatively young president that anticipates an even greater contribution towards making our world a safer place for all," Tutu said. "It is an award that speaks to the promise of President Obama's message of hope."

So this is now awarded for great things you may do in coming years?

What a circus

In order to fullfill his role as the anti-christ, he first needs to be presented as a man of peace.

This shows to what bizarre values our world has degenerated. Why not Ozzy Osborn ? or John Cleese ? or Mike Thyson if it must be a black face? Coming to think of it Donald Duck was also pretty docile for a long time and nominating him would really be neutral.

Since they gave it to a traitor and a terrorist they can give it to anyone

Could Obama be the MABUS of Nostradamus' prophecies?

This is a faux pax of note, with a generous smear of the brown stuff and primate arse display thrown in for good measure. I thought Obama was supposed to be intelligent? Can he not see that this is an ingratiating, patronising award? That it was given to him just because he is black? That he is being snookered into a non nuclear, hands-tied position?

The hypocrisy of awarding a Nobel prize for Peace at all was noted long ago - which is why it's awarded in Norway and not Sweden, where all the others are dished out. At the time of that decision, Sweden was constantly at war and Norway a neutral backwater - although they swapped roles in the 20th century with Norway joining NATO.
It seems the merry dance continues, with the c-in-c of the world's most dangerous army getting the award for being black.

Circus, indeed, Loggi.

I reckon the motive behind 'awarding' Obama was so he wouldn't undo his "peace" prize by launching an attack on Iran. It wouldn't be very Peace Nobley of him to start a new war now would it? His hands have been tied, in effect they are saying, don't attack Iran, let them have the bomb. I wonder if they can take it back if Obama found his testicles and actually did attack Iran.

You guys have it all wrong, by giving him he prize they have given him a licence to attack Iran!

"War is peace"

When War brings each and every Nation there own Land, INDEED, WAR CAN BRING PEACE!
The type of War machine intended to destroy Iran, however, is purely for financial gain, with the elimination of enemies of the modern israeli state as a bonus!

War to eliminate is definitely NOT Peace, as the original good vs evil sense of the word!
