When has Obama ever done the right thing? He never walked out on the Rev. Wright's racist sermons. He never raised the issue about the American blacks that voted for him because he was black. He's not going to give the Nobel Prize back!
The rattlesnakes are committing suicide...
Norwegians didn't think this out properly. What are they going to give Mr Obama when he finally contributes to the world peace?
But seriously, it's kinda not his 'fault' he was given it. Is it?
FishEagle: Is there an option not to accept it?
Elli
Obama should be South Africa's president.
@Real Estate Toronto,of course it is an option. With valid reasons, he should simply not accept it. I think it would be a first time though. I'll have a look on the web if there is any more info.
People turn down knighthoods all the time - why not the Peace Prize?
But in doing so, would that not suggest he has a few more wars up his sleeve??
RET, two people have voluntarily declined the Nobel Prize. It's possible. People will definately think Obama has a few more wars up his sleeve if he did that. He is finding himself in a pickle now. Heh heh. He could have avoided all of this if he refused the nomination.
FE
who were they??? don't leave us hanging....
It was Jean-Paul Sartre, who was awarded the Literature Nobel Prize in 1964 and Lê Đức Thọ (your guess is as good as mine on how to pronounce that name), who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 (awarded jointly with US Foreign Secretary Henry Kissinger, although he declined it because he said there was no peace in Vietnam at the time.)
FishEagle: thanks for the information, I was lazy to look it up myself. About refusing the nomination - well the nominations started like 2 weeks after he's been elected, so I guess the whole administration didn't think he could stand a chance. But the best solution now is in fact to politely refuse it, it's doing him no good. It's not even clear if he got it as Barrack Hussein Obama or as the first black Mr President of the United States.
Elli
I suspect the latter, Elli.
Canada's Governor General (who is black) recently declared at a UNESCO meeting that she "proudly represents the promises and possibilities of that ideal of society"[=a multicultural one] - i.e. just because she is black and has a position in a white country, that proves something.
Viking said: "just because she is black and has a position in a white country, that proves something."
Don't worry Viking, within a few years there won't be a white president or head of state in an country, worldwide!
