Death by crime in South Africa. A case of when, not if

I bet you can't even recall some of the murders reported last week. We truly are an abnormal society. South Africa, where the living is hard and the dying is easy.

Johannesburg - A 60-year-old clothing shop owner was shot dead and his son wounded by robbers in Jeppestown, Johannesburg police said on Sunday.

Six armed men entered City Hall Outfitters and held up staff and customers, demanding money around 10:30 on Saturday, Inspector Richard Munyai said.

"The robbers ordered everyone to lie down, while one of them jumped over the counter to access the till. They took about R2 600 from customers and an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash box."

As they were leaving, they took leather jackets from the store and put them on.

Shop owner Mohammed Dagee and his 35-year-old son had been at Dagee's other shop next door and went to investigate.

"They met two of the robbers just outside the shop. They shot him in the stomach and he was declared dead at the scene."

His son was shot in the right leg and taken to hospital in a stable condition. The robbers fled in two vehicles. No arrests were made.
