Burglars destroy home in four-day rampage

A Pretoria man's home has been ruined by a gang of burglars that repeatedly ransacked his house in a four-day rampage which saw ceiling lights, taps, cupboards, internal wiring and doors ripped off and stolen.

"The stuff they could not steal, like the stove and geyser, they simply broke, including the locked bedroom doors," he said.

The destruction was discovered when Ernest Klokow was urgently summoned to his Kameeldrift smallholding by a security guard over the weekend. What greeted Klokow was total devastation.

"I never expected it. Everything that could be stolen has been stolen and what they could not take they broke," said Klokow, as he stepped over plastic wiring insulation strewn about the garden and inside his house and pointed at shattered basins and torn ceiling boards.

'Before they left they drank all my liqueurs and ate all my food'
The attackers, who seriously injured Klokow's golden Labrador, Keiza, during the attack, are believed to have carried out their rampage between Tuesday and the early hours of Saturday.

Klokow, a performance management systems consultant, lives at his Kameeldrift property at weekends. In the week he stays at his Midrand home to be close to his office.

Patting Keiza, who has a broken right paw and a deep gash in her head, Klokow said he could not understand the attack and the violence that had gone with it.

"This is the first time in the 17 years I have lived here that something like this has happened. I do not know why anyone would want to do this. Why would they want to hurt my dog like this?"

Klokow said the burglars, whom he suspects may come from a nearby squatter camp and be trying to drive him off his land, had gained entry by bending open a security gate.

"They have basically destroyed my house. It is uninhabitable. They have destroyed all the electricity distribution boards, ripped out all the copper wiring both inside and outside the house, stolen all the taps, smashed the basins and broken the water pipes, which has caused my house to flood.

"They also stole my computers and computer equipment.

"They even tried to steal my roof insulation. The only reason they could not was it is made from asbestos and itches like crazy when you touch it," he said, while pointing to hundreds of personal documents strewn over his garage floor.

He said what had happened was unbelievable.

"It is clear these guys took their time. They obviously knew the house was empty and took their time coming back when they felt it was safe.

"The stuff they could not steal, like the stove and geyser, they simply broke, including the locked bedroom doors," he said.

Klokow said the burglars had also helped themselves to his alcohol and food.

"Before they left they drank all my liqueurs and ate all my food in the fridge. These guys simply have no shame," he said, estimating the damage to be about R500 000.- IOL

Loved the third picture of the detective putting on his second pair of sunglasses on top of the first pair.

What would be the message?
Perhaps it can never be dark enough, when working with blacks.
