I suppose it depends on one's definition of 'major'. Being cracked on the head counts as major to me. Anyhoo, get this, according to the same puhsleaze that are so reluctant to release national crime figures (currently 16 months overdue and counting, perhaps September they said) - the same farce so hesitant to record or investigate cases and who re-classify cases to lesser crimes in order to make the figures look good, supposedly only 39 incidents of crimes occurred during the two weeks of the Confed Cup. That was pretty quick with the numbers hey, a few days? It tells you a lot about this regime's priorities. It's more important to keep Fifa happy than worry about the citizenry.
And you'd believe them right..?
Let me put it this way, more incidents did happen of course but note which incidents are mentioned in the report. They all involve, you guessed it: foreigners! Why? Because these incidents were reported in the foreign media so our idiot police couldn't bleeding well lie that these crimes didn't happen, could they? What the police effectively did was scour the foreign news reports of the crime incidents which obviously came to 39 therefore, hey presto! - only 39 crime incidents. Well done, Sipho. Er, about the 52 murders and 100 rapes a day, any word yet?

Sapa - South African police on Monday expressed satisfaction with the Confederations Cup after the World Cup curtainraiser ended with no major breach of security.
Theft, mainly of mobile telephones, formed most of the 39 cases reported, deputy police commissioner Andre Pruis told journalists after the two week, four stadium event wrapped up Sunday.
Pruis said the event's joint security team "is satisfied that years of planning and preparations resulted in a tournament during which no major security breach occured".
Police logged 39 incidents and made 25 arrests. Cases included five robberies or muggings, two corruption cases in which police allegedly asked for cash, and two incidents at hotels hosting teams.
"We will build on lessons learned and expand on best practices to assist FIFA and the LOC in presenting the best World Cup ever in 2010."
Two high profile cases saw thefts reported from hotel rooms of the Egyptian and Brazilian delegations during the eight-nation tournament, which comes a year ahead of Africa's first World Cup.
A year-on-year analysis with the same two week period in 2008 had shown a "dramatic decrease" in serious crimes such as murder, attempted murder, common robbery, theft of motor vehicles and sexual assaults during the tournament, Pruis said.
