The Angelic, Innocent, and Untouchable Black Man

No topic in everyday conversation conjures up more emotion than race. White people in this country are so afraid of being labeled racist that they end up tip-toeing through any and every issue involving the government and the media’s most beloved group of people, the black person. Personally, I think that in addition to the statues of Jefferson and Lincoln, and the memorial to Washington, the District of Columbia should erect another statue, one standing high above all others. They should call this statue “The Black Man”, because in our society today, nothing and nobody is to be loved, excused, pitied, and enabled more.

The President slipped up the other night and revealed who he really is. Folks, Obama is not some post racial figure who goes beyond these issues. Obama actually, is no different than the pastor he listened to for 20 years. He is no different than Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, or any of the Marxist professors who live lavish lives in this awful “racist” country, by teaching at the most esteemed Universities. I am talking about men like Cornell West, and Henry Louis Gates.

Obama had no business delving into the issue of a local misdemeanor arrest, but when asked the question, he just couldn’t help his arrogant self. Let’s take another look at his comments. They certainly give us plenty of insight into this man’s character.

Well, I — I should say at the outset that Skip Gates is a friend, so I may be a little biased here.

Okay, Obama loves him some Harvard intellectuals. Nothing surprising here from the party of the little guy.

I don’t know all the facts.

Okay stop right there. That’s all he needed to say. But no, this is the Messiah speaking, the one allowed to pass judgment on anybody, even when he doesn’t know “all the facts”. What he did know though was that a black person was involved and a white person was involved, so obviously the white person is the bad guy. That’s pretty much all Obama needed to know, as far as he is concerned.

What’s been reported, though, is that the guy forgot his keys, jimmied his way to get into the house; there was a report called into the police station that there might be a burglary taking place.

So far, so good, right? I mean, if I was trying to jigger into — well, I guess this is my house now, so — (laughter) — it probably wouldn’t happen.

(Chuckling.) But let’s say my old house in Chicago — (laughter) — here I’d get shot. (Laughter.) But so far, so good. They’re — they’re — they’re reporting. The police are doing what they should. There’s a call. They go investigate. What happens?

My understanding is, at that point, Professor Gates is already in his house. The police officer comes in. I’m sure there’s some exchange of words. But my understanding is — is that Professor Gates then shows his ID to show that this is his house, and at that point he gets arrested for disorderly conduct, charges which are later dropped.

Once again Mr. President, you don’t know “all the facts”.

Now, I’ve — I don’t know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played in that. But I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry;

So a police officer comes to your house to protect you from burglary, and your first response is to get angry? Not me. Now if I was an elite black professor with a chip on my shoulder, I guess I would fly off the handle. After all, anger is pretty much what these types of people are all about. Also, being an angry black intellectual, race is always the first thing that comes to mind. Always! If the gas station clerk shorts Mr. Gates fifty cents, obviously it is racism. Obviously, after all he is black.

number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home.

Once again Mr. President, you don’t know “all the facts”. In fact, you don’t know any of the facts. You just allow your biased view of this “racist” country and it’s citizens to direct your assumptions.

And number three, what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately. That’s just a fact.

Can anybody out there cite one study done on this? Just one? That is not a “fact”! You know back in my younger days, I used to complain about being pulled over in a black neighborhood. The natural assumption of the police officer was that the only reason a white boy would be in that part of town was to buy drugs. If I had a black person in the car with me, the chances of being searched increased significantly. Was I profiled? Hell yes I was. But guess what I was doing in that neighborhood? I was profiled for a reason, and that was because I fit the profile of somebody likely to be committing a crime.

Mr. Gates did not fit the profile of some 19 year old gang member bouncing around in some big long 60 Chevy. He wasn’t even pulled over. Obama is talking about something totally different. Yet once again, he can’t help himself.

And even when there are honest misunderstandings, the fact that blacks and Hispanics are picked up more frequently, and oftentime for no cause, casts suspicion even when there is good cause. And that’s why I think the more that we’re working with local law enforcement to improve policing techniques so that we’re eliminating potential bias, the safer everybody’s going to be.

Again, IT’S NOT A FACT! Obama is just doing what Democrats always do. He is using race to scare blacks and Hispanics and to get more of their votes. When you add up all of the black people, all of the Hispanic people, and all of the guilt ridden white liberals, you got yourself a pretty good majority. No the President is not a uniter. Uniting doesn’t promote his ideals. Dividing works much better.

I personally am sick and tired of black people being assumed innocent and white people being assumed guilty. To assume a white person is guilty of racism is just as bad, in my opinion, as assuming that a black person is a criminal. Both prejudgments are equally wrong. It is the culture of unnecessary sympathy and enabling that almost ruined the lives of the Duke Lacrosse players. It is the same culture that defended the violent acts of the Jena Six thugs from Louisiana, young men who together, violently beat a random white boy. In case you have forgotten, these thuggish young men were held up as heroes, as some sort of modern Rosa Parks.

As for profiling, I support it fully. You can’t conduct law enforcement without profiling. The profile of a serial killer is a white guy. The profile of a terrorist is a Middle Easterner. Young black boys with their pants hanging off of their ass also fit a profile. If you belong to a certain ethnic group and you don’t want to be profiled, then do something about your culture. Don’t blame law enforcement for the fact that a disproportionate amount of criminals come from your group. They’re just doing their jobs.

Once again though, this Gates thing had nothing to do with any of that, and if Obama gave a rat’s ass about “all the facts”, he would have known that.

Impeach Obama!

Dach - impeach Obama for what? For giving his honest opinion after a Chicago Sun-Times reporter asked him a question? Whether he was right or wrong, the President of the US is allowed to have an opinion and to voice it and that is what he did. Additionally, as I told Doberman in email, Obama did not call the cops stupid, he said they acted stupidly. There is a distinction. Now, after reflecting on this case, I think Gates acted stupidly, very much so. In fairness, to respond to Islandshark's earlier point that he should have just called a locksmith - recall that Gates had just gotten off a 20-hour flight from China. I remember how it was getting off a 17-hour flight from South Africa back to US when my body and mind were still functioning on South African time. My point is - people tend not to be patient at that point. Nonetheless, it was of course very stupid to go off on a cop who as just doing his job. In fact what would Gates, Obama or anyone else say if the police did not come out? People on this blog and elsewhere have chided SAPS for not always responding to 10111 calls. Nonetheless, (I hope you are reading this Islandshark - to respond to your earlier point) although it was extremely stupid of Gates to get mad and yell at Sgt Crowley, the fact that he did so in his home and then on his porch seems to me not to rise to level of "disorderly conduct." Once Gates produced his ID, even if it was reluctantly and Crowley established that Gates lived there, he should have turned around, let Gates rant, and left. Instead, I think when Gates said "I'll talk to your mama outside" that's when Crowley lost it and arrested Gates. Gates is actually lucky that the cop did not punch him out though - talking about someone's mother is juvenile and crosses the line. Even most high school boys know that if you say that to someone you don't know (instead of in a joking fashion) you have a fight on your hands. So bottom line is it seems to me Gates acted more stupidly than anyone else here, but again, the President was entitled to give his opinion.
Racial profiling is a real problem though and Doberman whatever the proportion of blacks commiting crime there is no excuse for it. I just heard on CNN that blacks in LA, California for instance still get stopped whenever they drive nice cars. That of course is wrong by itself, unless the officer has reason to suspect that the person is actually engaging in crimes. They definitely need to get away from making stops though when one is just "driving while black." But I know that many police departments are working on this. I have heard that at airports TSA pull over 80-year old white grandmothers for extra searches so that they do not get accused of profiling Middle Eastern-looking men. Absurd? Perhaps so, but it seems to me that we do need to make sure that we are not treating any group of people - be they blacks, Arabs Latinos or indeed white men who happen to be in a mostly black area in a discriminatory fashion.

@ BC, we need to do this, we need to do that, but we don't. Thanks to liberals and leftists and the scourge of political correctness common sense has gone out of the window and so we are left with the buffoonery you saw played out last week.

First off, blacks need to stop using the crutch of victimhood and oppression in a country that elected a black president. Blacks need to take accountability for their actions like whites do. When everyone is done playing stupid as if the "other side" is too dumb to understand what is going on, then maybe we can have that honest conversation about race. Blacks need to take the lead here. Whites can only do so much.

@BC: If I had locked myself out of my house and the police responded to a concerned neighbours alert - I would NOT HAVE screamed at them as if I were a raving lunatic. He should have thanked the police for their prompt response and explained the situation. Instead he ranted and raved at public servants who were just doing their job. HE profiled the police immediately - not the other way round. He jumped to conclusions that they were acting racist and then continued to bait and disrespect them. Then, the almighty Obama decides to get involved and throw his 2 unnecessary cents in because he KNEW the guy. If this was anyone else he wouldn't have even bothered, but because he KNEW the guy all of a sudden he has a stupid opinion NOT BASED on facts but on wrong assumptions. Then he tries to do a 360degree turn after realising his error and says it was all a misunderstanding and come have a beer guys. How stupid is that??? This from a PRESIDENT of a country who should be more worried about the collapse of the mighty USA instead of hurling racial insults at the people entrusted to keep LAW and ORDER - order being the key word in this case. Their job is already difficult and then idiot Obama makes it even more difficult. He should praise his police officers and stand by them unequivically until they've been found guilty of wrongdoing and THEN address the issue if required. At least a few of Crowley's co-workers (read BLACK CO-WORKERS) backed him and stood up for him - not like the president of the country. Let's hope Obama shuts his trap and concentrates on his real job. Dumbass. Old Gates better not call the police when he really needs them cause if I were them, I wouldn't respond real quick. You reap what you sow...
