Austrian missionary murdered

Vienna - A 78-year-old Austrian missionary was murdered in South Africa's Western Cape province, his order announced on Monday, adding that he would be buried in his native country.

Ernst Ploechl, who lived in South Africa for more than 40 years, was found dead on Sunday morning at his lonely outpost of Maria Zell, Andreas Rohring, a spokesperson for the Mariannhill order told Austria's APA news agency.

Four held in connection with murder of well-known media expert Klaas Jonkheid

Four men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Klaas Jonkheid, Stellenbosch police said on Tuesday.

Captain Rene Mathee said the men, aged between 22 and 24, were found with Jonkheid's cellphone and a battery and spare wheel of the hired Toyota Yaris he was using while visiting the Western Cape.

Jonkheid was reported missing on Friday after he missed a farewell function and his flight to Johannesburg following a conference he had attended in Stellenbosch.

Police were called to a scene behind a church where Jonkheid's burnt body was found on Monday. The hired car he was driving was later found near the Forest Train Station completely burnt. Source
