The Amazing vanishing country

The evidence is in. Zimbabwe is FUBAR. This is clear not only from posts on this blog, but from many MSM sources well. The West is fed up. They are on to Bob. He has been sending his gofer stooge, Morgan Tsvangirai, on a globe trotting fishing expedition (sans fishing tackle) in a desperate attempt to obtain foreign aid, mostly we surmise to pay the wages of the workers of the state, in order to keep Bob and his cronies in power. But Morgan, poor luckless soul that he is, is returning home mostly empty-handed, after donors told him they wanted to see more economic, political and social reforms to convince them the unity government was not simply a cover to extend the nearly three-decade rule of Mugabe.

I was quite surprised to see the excellent coverage and articles on Zimbabwe by the BBC. No sugar coating of the issues here. As I say, the West is on to Bob. It is no use pretending anymore that things are going to be okay in Zimbabwe. People want Bob out of power, or dead (preferably the latter) and the sooner, the better.

It's a sad story and there is no schadenfreude, no revenge, no justice. Death stalks Zimbabwe:

The BBC and even the Guardian reveal just how much Bob has raped and destroyed his country. One insert describes the internal putrefaction in Letter from Africa: Not hell on earth but a place rotting from within.

This is a land now where there are 1.5 million orphans among only 11 million people and where children are selling their bodies in order to eat. This is the land where the filthy rich few send a 12 year old boy to do a job no strong man should have to face; caring for sick and dying relatives, until his own disease cripples him and leads to his early death.

This is a land where 4000 people have died from cholera (it's like dying from diarrhoea, clean water will cure it) and a further 100,000 have been infected.

Even the rhino are systematically being wiped out by poachers - Quote from the Guardian:"We're now down to about 400 rhinos, black and white, since the opening of the Chinese market. Normally the first thing the Chinese ask when they come here is, 'Have you got rhino? Have you got rhino?'" He added: "It's all linked to the top. All those corrupt ministers are trying to cream off as much as possible before the next election. But if the carnage continues over the next two years we'll have nothing left. The devastation taking place is not sustainable."

History is fast closing in on Bob, his legacy already stinks to high heaven. The best he can hope for is a few platitudes going back to 1980. In reality, it should be recorded that he committed a genocide against his own people. He is a traitor and a coward. A heartless, cold blooded, psychopathic murderer. I leave you with the following article from the Guardian.

The third in a series of pieces recorded undercover in Zimbabwe by the BBC's correspondent, Mike Thomson. It describes the life of a 14-year old boy, Patrick. His father is dead and his mother is dying with Aids. He cares for her and his 10-year-old sister - trying, he said, to be both a mother and a father to her.

His story was bleak and simple, and it is being repeated all over Zimbabwe, a country, Thomson reported this week, where there are 1.5 million orphans among only 11 million people. "I no longer go to school - that dream is over," said Patrick, who has cared for his family since he was 12.

Each day, he said, he cleaned clothes, fetched water and firewood, and looked for food, begging from neighbours. "Sometimes I am lucky and sometimes I am not," he said. When his mother is very ill, he carries her to hospital. He takes her to the toilet.

"Only when I die will he have his freedom," said his mother - but Patrick insisted he would never abandon his sister. It is hard to see much hope for him: Aids and Zimbabwe's economic collapse are crushing lives, and the country's new unity government has not yet made much of a difference.

The Zimbos have worked long and hard for the present stuation. Even at the last election around 49% of the voters voted for the Mugabe gang. May they have what they deserve.
