72-Year-old Gang raped and murdered

PRETORIA - A 72-year-old woman was found dead inside a small roadside shack in Mabokelele Village outside Seshego, Limpopo on Friday, police said. Sergeant Mothemane Malefo said the gruesome find was made by a female passer-by on the Gilead Road at 7am.

“She was apparently gang-raped and strangled to death with her own jersey,” he said. He said the incident may have happened on Thursday night when Maria Semenya, 72, was accosted by the thugs while she was walking home.

They apparently dragged her into the small shack on the roadside which was used to sell fruit. Malefo said it was not yet clear how many men were involved in the crime.

He said one man in his mid-20s was taken in for questioning on Friday morning.

“We arrested him through the trail of the prints of his takkies”, he said. Cases of rape and murder are being investigated.
