I saw this video from CEI (Competitive Enterprise Institute (USA). It is deftly done and the presentation alleges a 1984-esque conspiracy behind the global anti-warming movement, that climate change is really just a fallacy.
I disagree but it's good YouTube.
Not being one easily prone to conspiracies I reject the premiss that the so-called global warming movement is being propelled by pernicious forces wanting to control the world's energy, led by their glorious leader Al Gore. Rubbish.
It is fact that global warming is occurring and left unchallenged will lead to massive climate change from which mankind may never recover. It is our dinosaur-asteroid moment and our asteroid has broken orbit. If we do not act, it will become a problem mankind will not be able to remedy - and should even a fraction of the worst predictions come true, our certain extinction will follow. Man cannot undo an Ice Age, or lower 2 to 20 feet rise in sea levels, or end worldwide droughts, or restart the Atlantic Conveyor. We are, afterall, puny in the grand scheme of things and Gaia will shake us off like a tick.
Prudence is required and steady heads. I suppose that's impossible with human beings. Because somewhere between the most rabid points of view lies the answer. Groups like CEI (being an advocate for business) on the one side and Al Gore and Co. on the other may both may be right but it is the degree to which they are both right that differs. In the context of 1984, the case can be made that the manner and haste with which politicians and environmental extremists are proposing ramming their "solutions" down the throats of people is indeed evocative of the 1984 prophecy. Sometimes the solution is worse than the problem. Sometimes all roads lead nowhere. See? The Independent (UK) also has an authors’ roundtable/retrospective on Orwell’s influential novel.
Sixty years ago this week, George Orwell’s most important work of political fiction, 1984, was published. Orwell’s novel warned of the centralization of political power and the lengths that a totalitarian regime, led by Big Brother, would go to maintain its control over society.
On this anniversary, the Competitive Enterprise Institute reminds those who value freedom of a more current threat – the crusade for global governance led by environmental activist groups in the name of combating global warming. With calls for limits on energy use, new global taxes and the regulation of individual behavior, the recent development of environmental policy has tended ever more toward greater government control and less personal freedom.
“Environmental campaigners have long benefitted from the assumption that they have good intentions,” said CEI General Counsel Sam Kazman. “Unfortunately, the modern environmental movement has focused increasingly on policies that increase government control over what business can sell, what consumers can buy and what individuals can do with their lives. Truly harmful emissions have been successfully restricted for the most part. But with the war on carbon dioxide being escalated to extreme levels, as demonstrated in the new Waxman-Markey bill, we see expanding government control become a goal unto itself.”
CEI’s 90-second video campaign dramatizes this threat. The video follows in the steps of Apple Computer’s 1984 Super Bowl ad and the 2007 anti-Hillary Clinton “Vote Different” parody. It shows – in place of Big Brother – Al Gore lecturing a captive audience on the need to crack down on energy use, economic growth and personal freedom.
Mr. Kazman stated: “Orwell’s nightmarish society rested on a never-ending war fought on constantly shifting battlefronts. Nothing in our experience comes closer to that war than the current campaign to restrict humanity’s carbon footprint.”
“To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again: and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself. That was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word ‘doublethink’ involved the use of doublethink.’ – 1984, p. 37

It's like he knew exactly what the gold-owners were planning for the "western-world"!
This is a complex topic. While there is in fact a degree of climate change occurring: the whole Al Gore advanced notion that carbon-dioxide is causing global warming is patent nonsense in the extreme because the changing temperatures have nothing to do with an alleged increase in carbon-dioxide! Because the Medieval Warming Period demonstrates that this rise in temperature has happened BEFORE & is just part of a natural cycle just like the ice age was.
The main cause of climate change is the SUN & specifically sun spot activity because it is not just the Earth that is warming up BUT ALL OF THE OTHER PLANETS IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM AS WELL! Certainly carbon-dioxide is not the culprit on THOSE planets too lest there are carbon based life forms as advanced as us there - which is most UNLIKELY due those other planets incompatibility to support carbon based life forms.
Now another factor contributing to climate change is the fact that the Earth is vibrating faster as a result of an increase in its resonant frequency / also called the Schumann resonance which was at 7 Hertz per cycle until around 1987 then began to climb dramatically to where it is now at around 11 Hertz per cycle & expected to climb further. This has caused some to assert that the Earth is changing in order to adapt to a change in matter somewhat to what the Hopi have claimed will occur within their legends / predictions concerning a new Earth & sun & also even in line with the Christian & other ancient teachings of a new Earth & new physical dimension.
Anon 2:21 “…Gore advanced notion that carbon-dioxide is causing global warming is patent nonsense in the extreme because the changing temperatures have nothing to do with an alleged increase in carbon-dioxide…” You seem to be very sure that the one has nothing to do with the other. You need to consider that both the natural environmental factors and humans are having an impact on the climate. Would you at least concede that there are too many people occupying the earth?
I don’t like discussing these environmental issues because I get very, very frustrated at people’s ignorance. How can the average person begin to understand the crisis of our environment? I talk about the outdoors to my average city friend and their comprehension is no more than a baby’s comprehension if you gave it a credit card and told it to go shopping for a wardrobe.
Whatever "impact" humans have on the environment is minuscule compared to the impact nature has on itself. There are not "too many " humans on the planet. This is just more Marxist / Global elite nonsense. There are only too any humans from THEIR point of view because more humans threatens their power structure which looks to be going by the wayside more & more. Furthermore: if there ever were to be "too many" humans: nature has a self correcting method of preventing or stopping it through a host of avenues not lest of which sterility & you should notice that this is on the rise now.
Anonymous 12:02. There are an estimated 10 to 100 million species on earth of which 1.5 million have been named. In the 20th century the rate of extinction increased 1% each year, which was about 10,000% times higher than before human technological activity.
Meteorites and comet showers may have been responsible for some mass extinction. Global climate change, fluctuation in the concentration of various gases, and other gradual environmental trends may have caused others.
There have been five particularly widespread mass extinctions. The present age is witness to the sixth great mass extinction. Mass extinctions have occurred roughly every 26 million years. It is not known whether it was by chance or whether there was some unknown explanation for it. A mass extinction is defined as a period in which at least 50% of all species become extinct.
My job is to implement a measure of damage control to one of our big environmental problems. Nothing to do directly with climate change. You can spin all that conspiracy theory and brainwashing crap as much as you like. I’m the foot soldier on the ground and am witness to the environmental damage that has been done in my own ‘back yard’.
The extent of the problem of over population should not be in question, only the solutions to the problem. Equality of all people is a principle that goes against nature’s laws. I support a meritocracy only, which can only be developed once everybody has been given equal rights. We are just going through the process via a democracy or communism. I couldn’t give a rat’s ass whether you support either one.
I'm with FE on man's impact on the planet. How rational humans can think that 6 billion high-maintenance creatures can have anything but a detrimental effect on the planet is beyond me? There's no conspiracy. There's no grey old men in smokey rooms plotting to control the world's energy. What there is is a lot of mixed messages from the scientific community and media about the effects of human activity on the planet.
Some of you should read a book called Gaia's Revenge. The planet, nature if you want, will eventually rid itself of things that cause it harm. We humans are like a cancer on the planet and Gaia will rid itself of us eventually unless we learn to live in harmony with it.
Good Lord! This Gaia's Revenge bullshit is the biggest conspiracy theory of all. No one has to "conspire" to own the world's energy they already do! Just look into a brilliant scientist named Nicola Tesla & how his inventions revolutionized energy use & also notice how his freed energy devises were purposely sidelined. No plan to control the world's energy you say? Then you are not looking hard enough at the facts.
@ anon 1:30, relax dipstick, time to get a clue. Gaia's Revenge is not about a conspiracy. It is about nature sorting out what works and what doesn't. Mankind is ruining the planet and Gaia (earth) and nature has a way of removing the tick off its back, which is what we are. If we continue living the way we are, we will go the way of the dinosaurs. The planet will see to it.
Then why are you promoting the conspiratorial notion that the Earth is planning on culling the human population? Ether way it doesn't matter who ones alleges is going to do the culling. The fact is that the current zeitgeist is to get people indoctrinated with the notion that there are "too many humans" & that their destruction is "necessary" for the enslaved few who would remain.
Again, it's not a conspiracy, it's a scenario. If we abuse and destroy everything that the planet has to offer, what do you think will be the outcome and who do you think will have the last laugh? The planet. So, in that respect earth (Gaia) gets its revenge in the end. The only way to preserve ourselves is to live within our means in harmony WITH the planet and then there will be no need for nature to get its 'revenge'.
So basically it's okay to substitute "Gaia" for " Global Elite" just so long as the common meme of overpopulation is propelled. From wher I sit it's clear as day that this whole Gaia's Revenge notion is a convenient mask to rationalize the elite's [iluvsa.blogspot.com/2009/05/bilderberg-group-plans-for-fast-crash.html ] plan of depopulation.
Not quite the same. Let's exclude conspiracies for a moment and just imagine the stress the planet is under to cater for 6 billion beings, what it takes to provide for everyone. I believe the planet has the capacity to handle three times as many people - if we did it smarter. We cannot go on as if the resources are limitless. We have to be clever about it.
It seems with or without 'conspiracies' humans will die out regardless when climate change brings on droughts, or sea levels rise, whatever. We need to get back to basics. We need to be smart. How to do it is what no-one can agree on.
Someone once told me that if every human being stood at arm's length from each other, the space we take up would fit into Mauritius. Now I don't know if that is true but it is clear that the planet can sustain plenty of people but not at the rate we are going.
