I was going to leave this piece in the opinions section under the applicable post but it turned out to be so long I thought I'd turn it into a full post. Hmm, right, what to do about a particularly confused American individual who drops by occasionally and riles everybody. You know of whom I doth speaketh. This question has been posed before and the general consensus then was that we should allow him to comment, if only to watch with macabre fascination how the mind of a delusional leftwing American functions (functions? - too strong a word?) .. er, ticks over.
Greg/ Black Coffee, you continue to disappoint me. You are evidently a very unenlightened individual for one who claims to have studied our history. You say you are working towards some PhD in South African history but correct me if I'm wrong (I haven't got a PhD) but I read somewhere that 'the purpose of a PhD is to be the 'steward of a discipline' in the fullest sense. It is the desire to maintain the vigour, quality, and integrity of the field. In your case, it seems to me that there is a desire to preserve a certain orthodoxy of doctrine as professed by your examiners. Heretics [insert definition] need not apply.
Firstly and most importantly: You have never lived in South Africa. That precludes you at once from an essential constituent that we South Africans possess: we have lived, breathed and died [for] our country. Having you commenting on our affairs is akin to me pretending to care about Japanese North Island history. Despite my interest, my so-called expertise in the subject is a mere oddity. I can never capture the essence of the subject because simply, I have never lived in Japan’s North Island and I am not Japanese.
We continue to eat, live and breathe South Africa. That's an important point for you to remember. Everything you natter on about really is tainted from that perspective. You can never be South African, you can never understand South Africans and you will never, ever completely begin to comprehend what it is to be innately South African. Yet there you are, debating South African history with South Africans who have LIVED THE HISTORY you study - yes, that's right, the stuff you READ about in books WE LIVED IT! We are not characters in a history long gone. We are a history still in the making. Can you understand this point? Am I going to fast for you?
You want to know about Boipatong, Sharpeville? Ask us. We were there. We were at those places that appear as words in your history books. We were at the Soweto riots in '76. We were there in the 80s fearing for our lives when a State of Emergency was called. We watched people being necklaced. We watched the marches, we lived through the bombs in the shopping centres, we lived the shootouts in the streets and churches – stuff you read about, mere words to you, are actual events to us. We, that is us, not you, not dead people, we are the history you are learning about. Our history has not been written.
You cannot therefore, never know then what you are talking about. You are just an observer. You are standing on the shore as the ship is sailing by. We are aboard the ship.
As a prospective 'expert' in the subject, one would think you would be interested by our stories. Imagine if Abraham Lincoln was alive and you were able to interview him. Would your American history be different? Would your perceptions of Lincoln be different?
It is us that have suffered at the hands of the Marxist ANC alliance. It is us that have been forced to leave our country. It is us that have had friends and family murdered. Your biggest issue today will be what to eat for fu*king lunch! South Africans on the other hand worry that the next phone call may be word that a loved one has been killed. Everyone is affected, black and white, inside the country and those of us in the Diaspora. You cannot begin to understand our anxiety and apprehension about a situation made more probable by the pathetic mismanagement of the country by the Marxist ANC alliance. You see, we do have a point of reference because we have lived the country's history. Try and get this idea into your head. We know what was, is and will be.
Understand me when I say that I won't stand for you trivialising our pain. You've been warned about this before privately. If you do not want to hear the other side's views then it is time for you to move on. We have a truth to dispense and fuck it to hell, TELL IT WE WILL!! Any way we want to!
It is a story you and the outside world has not heard and seemingly does not want to hear but the web has made it possible for us to narrate our side – and we will keep repeating it until people hear us. We can never be silenced. The history of South Africa is still being written and fair-minded historians, not those biased like you will record the true facts as told by thousands, that's us, not a handful, not just from one side.
So stick to your version of our history, contained in the anti-apartheid propaganda hysteria of committed hardcore leftists, Marxists and communists. That is obviously your intention. It fits your perspective. That they may be lying has not been questioned by you and even if they are indeed falsehoods, it does not seem to faze you. Their views seem ample evidence for you because they were the 'victims'. And 'victims' never lie, do they? It also says a lot about you - and the worth of your Ph.D should you ever attain it.
No one here is justifying apartheid on the basis that it was one race intent on simply oppressing another. That's the simplified version to suit the attention span and IQ of Americans. Bad whites hurt defenceless poor blacks. Got it yanks? Duh..uh huh, yeah, what's on American Idol?
We are attempting to explicate that for the minority, peering northwards observing what had happened to other minorities in Africa, that apartheid was a question of survival of a race, a nation, a notion you cannot begin to conceive of. You then question another South African patriot [note the emphasis my American friend] Hansie0Slim who is doing nothing more than presenting an alternative history to yours, the possibility that it may actually contribute to elucidating your pre-conceived beliefs escaping you.
Sentiments from living people that contradict a bunch of dead communists is unacceptable yet you accept, nay, endorse stridently the views and motives of terrorists and communists known to use tactics like misleading propaganda.
If your intention is to debate candidly with us with an open-mind then this is the forum for you but if you insist on being the mouthpiece of dead communists like Steve Biko, adding nothing but the same old mantra of 'bad whites, good blacks', you in fact help to accentuate the perception, at least from my standpoint of being a typical American, an ignorant useful idiot.
Produce something constructive to the debate or leave. Why fu*king discuss the type of wax to be used on the car (like the police services) when the car has no engine?! Let's take a step back, attempt to encapsulate the South Africa politic from all sides so we can begin to understand why events have taken this downward spiral. Why is South Africa in the crapper? What has gotten us to this point? Let’s examine all points of view and then discuss solutions. I could really NOT give a rat's arse that the ANC regime is getting new taxis for example, when 50+ people are murdered every day, while corruption is rife and South Africa continues down the waterslide tube to Banana-dom.
Enquire rather: why is this crime so severe, how did it get like this and what are the solutions? Constructive questions and suggestions please. Stop worrying about the wax. Tell me how to get an engine. Your books provide half the story. We constitute the other half, a half that can be interviewed. An intelligent mind would grab at the opportunity to hear all sides however unpalatable. A closed mind however, is a good thing to lose.

Brilliant piece Dobes.
And I'm sure it is not aimed solely at the Burping Chimp, but at those who prefer not to think, also.
As far as he is concerned, remember he is a student at an overwhelmingly black university, and he is merely spouting the party line.
If he wants his Ph.D, he is obliged to parrot these half truths and untruths. Good Lord, imagine if he does have a moment of enlightenment - or a Damascene conversion - he would/could not dare tell the truth - his black teachers would throw him out on his ear.
And his years of "study" and all that money his unfortunate parents paid for him would go down the toilet.
In any event, he is an agent provocateur, a useful idiot and should merely be ignored as such.
The worst is that he is actually dishonest and a blight on the credibility of all Ph.Ds out there.
Hey Albs, I guess then your vote would be "kick the mudda out so hard he'll be stopped in Texas for speeding"? ;o) That's one vote against.
Absolutely brilliant and passionate Dobes!
As for Black Coffee; me being new here, I ain't had that much of a run-in with him; I am still waiting for him to answer my question, at my Cape Secession piece.
Either way, I am of the opinion, that no matter how disagreeable he may be; I prefer to err on the side of total transparency and freedom of speech. Socialists are the one's who favour censorship; lets attempt to avoid falling down that trap. I too was once in my la-la-land days, an Bleediing Heart Ignoramus 'Black Coffee'; thank God, i got hit over the head with a broomstick of reality.
As for Steve Biko: I recently had quite a heated argument on the issue of interpreting Biko's points of view and perspectives; with a 'Black Power' gent, from UWC. I am not too sure, that if Biko was around today, if he still had his original 'psychological liberation' principles, and hadn't sold out like the entire ANC 'struggle' movement to corruption and despotism; he would agree with thier interpretation of his opinions, at that time. Anyway, food for thought for another thread, some day soon maybe.
Loved your eloquent passion. Thanks.
Smokin' post Doberman. My heart soared reading it!
A little story for Greg: I worked in JHB CBD. Slap bang in the mirrel cryril, Kerk Street, Sauer street, Market, Commissioner, Library Gardens, etc. That was my stomping ground for five years until 2006. At lunch times I would walk those streets. I bought peanuts from the gentle Magogo roasting them over open coals in the street, I ate Chicken Licken with my fingers with blacks from my work. I was a member of the self same library that had become the gathering and meeting place for the newly "liberated". I got to know those roads with vendors all on top of one another well. Everyone on the street was poor. I did it all naturally and without any sense of "gee, look how liberated I am" ...While in those insulated buildings, the liberalised white business leaders were giving powerpoint presentations to each other on the new "Company supports community project" Save the AIDS orphans or whatever. Schmoozing up to the latest imported coconut with a BCom or MBA and slapping each other on the back and congratulating themselves on how great transformation is, how liberal they were, how great it was at last to be equal with all races, and thank God apartheid is gone, aren't we all just such beautiful people and so lucky to be members of the rainbow nation?... At the end of the day, these liberal execs would slip out of the secure basement parking in their BMW's (careful to smile and acknowledge that Simpiwe or Nosizi was driving a vehicle at least to the same value) and they would shoot off to leafy suburbia somewhere in Constantia or Midrand. Home to watch digitised Television and drink fancy wine behind 15 foot electrified pallisades. My point: I realised that despite my own personal efforts, transformation is a myth. Nobody really believes in it. It's bullshit. It had to be forced upon society. It's squaring the circle. It goes with the money, the money alone gives it credence and without the money, it means fuck all. The only whites happy with it are rich liberal hypocrites with enough money to live above it.
Everything else Greg, is a myth. Rainbow nation and Ubuntu included. The Xenophobic killings 2008 put paid to that dream neatly and clearly. As Doberman says BC, you are not South African and you never will be. You do not understand.
Very well thought out and written, Doberman. I doubt very much whether BC's parents are paying for any kind of Ph.D, Albeus. I agree that BC's overall attitude and jeers of "you'll never find me" are typical of a rather stupid, paid agent provocateur. He is a mouthpiece for some Black Panther type organisation who are anti whites, wherever. The fact that he follows a failed blog like KillAllWhitey said it all, right from the start. "Greg Berchenko" is a pestiferous pseudo-intellectual with an axe to grind against "AllWhitey". I don't even think Greg Berchenko is his real name. That's just another ruse to pay attention to him and try to find out where he lives, allegedly in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Although it could be true that he hails from Ohio. This is a news story from around 10 years ago:
In Ohio, an unidentified man in his late twenties walked into a police station with a 9-inch wire protruding from his forehead and calmly asked officers to give him an X-ray to help him find his brain, which he claimed had been stolen. Police were shocked to learn that the man had drilled a 6-inch deep hole in his skull with a Black & Decker power drill and had stuck the wire in to try and find the missing brain.
Sounds like BC alright.
Good for you to relegate BC to troglodyte ancient history. Let's keep it that way and not be lured into any further "discussion" with the silly bastard.
It is thanks to the likes of Black Coffee that I may never know the names of my peers on this blog. Thanks to you we have to sneek around like thieves in the night. Good bye and good riddance. F*cking w*anker
@Daschund (note correct spelling)
We have four of them. Very cute too.
Anyway, ol' buddy, its all true - down to his name...
@Andrea. I wholeheartedly support your notion of transparency, as does Dobes. This was the initial approach we took with BC. We don't want to stifle debate, and we would prefer dissenting voices to come out into the open. Unfortunately BC has a standard set of responses for every argument, therefore it becomes a circular game. It takes too much energy to debate trivial issues.
@Albeus: I prefer to use the more descriptive Dachshund because dach is the German word for badger, which is what Dachshunds were trained to chase and flush out.
However, as dachshunds are no longer required for Badger Chasing, the dach part has become redundant and the word has morphed, for some users, into the alternative daschund. If you google both versions, you will find them both acceptable.
I prefer ze Cherman version.
Daschund: Your Ohio man story who lost his brain was hilarious! Just hilarious; did you make that up? If so, what an imagination!
Vanilla: Hear you, as I said, I ain't got all the information to make an informed decision on the issue; and on the one issue I did confront BC to 'put his money where his mouth was', I am still waiting.
Appears plausible BC does not want to be taken seriously, nor to take the issues posted seriously, with an intention to explore the issues to wherever facts lead....
Black Coffee: If I am incorrect BC, feel free to inform me by email, my email address is easily findable, and I will give you a fair hearing, but don't bullshit me; I got some fucking good friends who graduated from Howard University, with Frederick Douglass blood in their veins.
Thanks Dobes, I stand corrected...
ooops!!!
Eiiisssh!!
@Andrea: I googled Ohio jokes - there are more - but what if it isn't a joke? A lot of anecdotes derived from just-too-stupid-to-be-true stories are written off as "jokes". Sure sounds like BC to me.
I wouldn't get into any e-mail correspondence with BC. It's a waste of time, and you may just land up with a barrage of pornography in your e-mail and a nasty little virus on your computer. That's just my personal guess about people like that. Hith daddy hath money. He may jutht want to hirt you.
Dachshund,
Well either way it was a very funny Darwin Award Joke... whether it's BC, or not.
I can see BC appears to be a favourite 'irritant' (for want of a better word), with many.
I do not doubt your fairness and your conclusions, but -- for me -- I simply dont have access to your information, and accordingly cannot make a fully informed and fair conclusion.
My offer to BC, was simply that should he feel aggrieved by Vanilla and Doberman's decision (both of whom I consider very, very fair), he was welcome to email me, and I'd LISTEN.
An interesting thing happens when you find someone who very, very closely listens to you (at least this happened for me), is that all of a sudden you find that you haven't been listening very closely to yourself! A fascinating experience.
PS: An interesting anagram of LISTEN is SILENT! ;-)
