As if the ANC comrades have not done enough to drag this country down the drain they are solely responsible for keeping mad Bob in power and overseeing the destruction of Africa`s breadbasket in our neighbouring Zimbabwe.
South Africa can by no means deal with the unemployment and social ills this government has created and yet in their infinite wisdom they have now opened our border for even more destitute jobless masses.
Johannesburg - South Africa has about 1.2% of the world's labour force, but makes up about 5.3% of the world's unemployed, which is too high, according to economist Mike Schussler.
"South Africa has the third highest unemployment rate in the world among 73 countries measured by the International Labour Organisation (ILO)," he told a UASA union employment briefing.
"We have a very high unemployment rate and are only outside the West Bank and Gaza - which are war zones," he says.
"We have been over 20% unemployment for 12 years," he adds.
Schussler calls the latest unemployment data in South Africa - at 23.5% - as "shocking" in light of the fact that GDP is set to be weak and not job creative until 2012 in light of the global credit crisis.
He says the ILO expects 50 million jobs "will go", or around 4.5% of the 1.2 billion people in mainly formal employment around the world in major economies excluding India - about 90% of world GDP. "If the number of unemployed around November last year was 74 million or 7.4%, then the ILO prediction of 50 million shows unemployment rate of around 11% if you take off China," he says.
He notes the US has lost -3.3% of workforce year on year. Schussler does not foresee South African job losses as severe as the global averages.
According to the Global Poverty Research Group (GPRG), the unemployment rate in South Africa is one of the highest in the world, 36% to 42% since the year 2000 using the broad definition Source

Of course we won't have job losses like the rest of the world. We are already unemployed.
I wonder if someone could please clear up the discrepancy in the unemployment figures? This news24 report states that unemployment has "shot up" to 23.5% but independant sources say the figure is closer to 40%, going up to 43% because of the credit crunch. Which is closer to the truth? If Schussler is "shocked" that the figure is 23.5%, is he even aware that it could be nearly double that figure? Is he trying, but failing, to compare apples with apples? What about the millions of zim refugees, are they included in any of these stats I wonder? Are we and the world being deliberately misled by the MSM, or is it just woeful Govmunt stats?
The discrepancy between stats and official stats keep widening by the day.It is of course in the interest of Mike Shussler and all these investment company's to downplay these figures. Who in there right mind will invest here if the official unemployment rate was 50% without even taking 3 to 5 million illegals into account. Then of course we will still have a few million from afar afield as Sudan and Somalia, arriving in the hope of making some money off the world cup.
23% is not even scratching the surface.
Is hijacking, robbery, fraud, theft, murder(for hire), begging, stealing, corruption, conning, collecting for a good cause, bribery, drug smuggling, wood collecting, dope dealing, prostitution, car guarding, taxi driving, gambling, extortion, perlemoen dealing, fruit and sweet vending, flower selling and not forgetting musicians and cray fish divers, and whatever you wish to add in the informal sense, regarded as employment or self employed if it is your sole income? Or is the question based on people registerd as law abiding tax paying citizens. Afterall there is a large legal/illegal informal sector. Where does one draw the line. How do they do the survey. Anyone? Is the figure truly reflective of people that stay at home and do not make a buck? Is "jobless" different to unemployed?

Good point!
True, Joe.
It's almost impossible to measure unemployment in this country. Is 'car guard' a job? or is it begging?
