An Analysis of IQ and Corruption

Following on from my fellow blogger's post and given that I have the data, I thought it would be interesting to explore the relationship between IQ and corruption.

I decided to split the nations of the world up into three categories, those with an IQ of 90 and above, those from 81 -89 and those with an IQ of 80 and less.

Well it is a relatively easy one to answer. Using the correlation co-efficient, there is a positive relationship between IQ and corruption levels for nations that have an IQ of 90 and above, in other words the higher the IQ the lower the levels of corruption.

Strangely, below 90 it is chaos. Here it seems IQ doesn't matter, there is a disconnect. The seething masses of the world fall into this category and it seems that the culture of self-enrichment is endemic.

It would be interesting to explore why it is that indigenous people go to all the effort to liberate their people and then they engage in widespread corruption. Surely it cannot be as simple as to "get one's snout into the trough" so to speak? Perhaps it is that the initiators of a liberation struggle are of a higher IQ and can delay gratification. Thereafter it becomes impossible to control the masses waiting to be satisfied, who also do not have the cognitive abilities to appreciate the impact that corruption ultimately has on a nation. Something akin to the third world pedestrian who crosses the highway whilst you speed towards him at 120km/h. He has no idea that you will cover the distance faster than he can run, and that the outcome is fatal.

And that is exactly why third world dictators believe that less of their own kind is more.

Interesting Vannilla. I notice you often refer to the issue of delaying gratification. It is not often considered -- at least not that I have noticed -- as a factor; and yet its an interesting factor in many ways.
