Africans to go to moon to ask Yanks "What you doing here?"

Courtesy of an anonymous reader. Gary Coleman in Diff'rent Strokes used to say "Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?" Precisely. What are you talking about Museveni? These utterances speak volumes for the calibre of leadership in Africa, or rather the lack of it. Picture any leader in the West saying this shite and the consequent bellows of laughter from around the world. Unreal. Btw, I didn't know the moon was "up there".

Africans must go to the moon

Entebbe, Uganda - Africans must travel to the moon to investigate what developed nations have been doing in outer space, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said on Saturday.

"The Americans have gone to the moon. And the Russians. The Chinese and Indians will go there soon. Africans are the only ones who are stuck here," Museveni said, addressing a meeting of the Uganda Law Society in Entebbe.

"We must also go there and say: 'What are you people doing up here?'."

Museveni urged the assembly of Uganda's top lawyers to support East African integration, arguing that one of the region's goals should be to develop a space programme.

"Uganda alone cannot go to the moon. We are too small. But East Africa united can. That is what East African integration is all about," he said. "Then we can say to the Americans: 'What are you doing here all alone?'."

Museveni has vocally campaigned for a common East African economic and political zone.

Negotiations to establish a tariff free trade zone including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda have been ongoing for months.

Museveni on Saturday also called for enhanced political integration among the East African nations, suggesting the region would be strengthened by becoming one country.

LOL. This is really classic. The thing that struck me is total lack of Museveni's knowledge of Maslows hierarchy of needs: You cannot move onto a new plateau of fullfillment without satisfying your more immediate, basic needs. At the top of the hierarchy, and the ultimate to strive for, is "self actualisation" Funny when you consider that most of Africa is still in a pre-Socratic, neolithic condition with their very first needs not even taken care of ie poverty, famine, education, disease etc etc...Museveni trying to philosophise and envision a future that is some 2500 years distant, it's hilarious!

Ever ask yourself how, although whites were in Africa thousands of years before they were in America, "Americans" are considered white or mixed, while "Africans" are supposedly black?

Very funny!!! I had settle a debate recently between to reasonably (SA schools) educated youths about the distance to the moon. The one fella was convinced it is about the same distance from earth as Cape Town is from J/burg. It was surprising to see how many people in this day and age of Google don't know how far the moon is from earth. Do you know? Museveni obviously has no clue! WTF, is this oke going to build a ladder to get to the moon. The last time they sent a black prostitute to the moon she came back pregnant with a coke and a packet of chips. It goes to show that the SA police services are everywhere. Ow my baas!

Joe, most people would google the distance to the moon. As far as I can recall, it is roughly 250,000 miles, a quarter of a million miles. That is based on a standard 3 education in the old SA. I then did the google search and found out that it is not quite so simple: Remember that the moon travels in an ellipse, so at it's closest to earth it is 225,622 miles distant and at it's furthest it is 252,088.
So the average is 238,857 miles.
So the problem for any person trying to calculate a trip to the moon "up there" must take into account the speed of the rocket, the time lapse and of course, most importantly, the effects of gravity. I think I would place a trillion to one bet that the Africans, whether East conglomerate, Renaissance, SADEC, AU, or in any form, will not even attempt to do it for at least 2500 years, maybe more.

I do not agree that it will take them 2500 years. If you consider that the average man can walk 20 miles a day, if Museveni started walking today, he will reach the moon in 33 years. Have faith my brother.

Blacks don't need a rocket as they're MUCH smarter than the White man!

If they just wait until the Moon is on the otherside of the Earth from SA, then it's simply downhill all the way. No need to launch anything into space just jump off the edge! Be careful to jump before the Moon reaches your landing point or you'll miss. To get back simply wait until the Moon is above SA and once again, jump!
They can try that with the Sun as well. Make it a night launch there and a midday trip back, so they can tell when SA is underneath them, and be back in time for lunch -- last one back buys the KFC!

"Museveni urged the assembly of Uganda's top lawyers to support East African integration"

You missed the interesting issue. It sounds as if they are starting to talk about an "EU" of Africa.

Integrate East Africa into what?
