I think it goes without saying that all of us at I Luv SA have you in our thoughts and prayers and that you will make a full recovery. Personally, I couldn't imagine my morning commute without the sound of your jocular voice (when in South Africa). All the very best and we hope all goes well.
Radio icon Jeremy Mansfield from 94.7 Highveld Stereo’s Rude Awakening breakfast show has been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, known as CLL.
“This is not life-threatening but needs to be dealt with, and that is why my doctors and I have chosen to take an aggressive approach to the disease,” said Mansfield, who will be starting a six-month course of chemotherapy with immediate effect.
Mansfield acknowledged that he had already implemented the lifestyle changes that this diagnosis necessitated.
That included giving up his life passion: beer. He also had to stop smoking.
He indicated that he had no intention of reducing his on-air commitments but would be managing his off-air commitments more carefully.
Highveld Stereo and Primedia Broadcasting extended their support to Mansfield and his family and wished him a full recovery.
Their good wishes are echoed by The Citizen.
CLL is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.
The term “chronic” refers to the typical progression of the disease, which is slower than other types of leukemia. The term “lymphocytic” comes from the cells affected – a group of white blood cells called lymphocytes that help our bodies fight infection. The disease most commonly affects older adults, although it may occur at any age and can even affect children.
