Recently my fellow blogger, Doberman, posted an article pointing out the relationship South Africans have with their bakkies. Well, whilst I pondered this I felt a strong sense of nostalgia, and recalled my love for my staffie .... also an import to South Africa, and yet every bit a part of the landscape. So this got me searching for something that I think many of the South African diaspora may find touching. Enjoy.

Don't forget the Boerboel, a Staffie on steroids.
(Sir)Percy Fitzpatrick had recieved a generous advance against the book, there was a deadline and the London Publishers
of Jock of the Bushveld were making legal sounds as the Final draft was well overdue.
So "Uncle" Percy fictiously killed Jock off in a chicken coop to finish the book and get the publishers off his back..
In real life Jock passed away in his sleep on the Stoep 5 years later after many more adventures..
The rest of the story is in a handwritten Journal that Sir Percy read from in Ouma's Kitchen when he visited Volksrust.
Somehow ,I always felt better knowing that.
@Anonymous. Thanks for that. I didn't know that and it too makes me feel better.
