A two-year-old baby girl has been killed, possibly by rats that gnawed off 95 percent of her face.
The girl was found dead yesterday morning in a bed that she shared with her parents after her mother woke up and realised she was not moving.
When she turned the baby over she discovered that her eyes, nose and lips were gone, said Johannesburg emergency services spokesman, Percy Morokane. Blood traces were found.
The stepfather had apparently already woken up at the family home in Ivory Park Extension 2 and left for work without noticing his stepdaughter's death or her mutilated face.
The mother said she suspected that rats were responsible. She received trauma counselling.

Very gross.
The child didn't cry? Neither the mother nor the "stepfather" noticed there were rats crawling all over the bed? They were obviously both stoned.
@ anon 9:36, that would be guess too. The child would have screamed, it was being eaten alive. The 'parents' were obviously a) not home or b) stoned and passed out. They should be prosecuted.
