Child may have attacked Margate man

A 69-year-old man is in a critical condition after being attacked in his home in Trafalgar, near Margate, on Tuesday.

Police Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said it appeared that the attack was perpetrated by a street child.

"It is not clear how the child managed to gain entry into the man's home."

Mdunge said police had launched a search of the immediate area to find the child, but by Tuesday night he had not been found.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the man was "butchered" by his attacker, who had probably used a panga.
