WTF???

Imagine living in a First world country and being given this advice! I can only shake my head in even more amazement. Thanks to those PC jerks who thought SA would be a miracle country after '94....

Actually it is a miracle to make it home safe, sleep through the night without being robbed, having a braai without being attacked and killed, etc; etc; Have a look at the comments underneath.

Drivers should take cautionary steps to reduce the risk of hijackings, which rose more than four percent last year, according to crime statistics.

The advice below, from the security organisation Chubb, follows the release of data showing that Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 75 percent of all reported hijackings.

The police stations that recorded the most cases were Booysens, Sandton and Mondeor in Johannesburg; and Pinetown, Umlazi, and Phoenix in Durban.

The most common types of hijackings occur when vehicles are parked, or moving slowly, and another driver deliberately bumps the car to provoke the driver into getting out.

Here are some things to remember if you find yourself in this potentially dangerous situation:

  • Obey the hijacker's instructions.

  • Keep your hands visible at all times.

  • Try not to make eye contact with the hijacker.

  • Try not to panic or show emotional distress.

  • Do not reach for anything without first telling the hijacker what you are doing.

  • Consider your passengers.

  • Do not ask the hijacker if you can retain certain items in the vehicle.

  • If asked for the personal identification number (PIN) for your credit card, give it correctly. If you are told to accompany the hijacker to the auto teller, do so without argument or appeal.

  • Try to remember as many features of the hijacker (and his accomplices if he has any) as possible.

  • When the hijack is over, make a detailed report to the police.

Shooting is a distinct possibility in a hijacking attempt; therefore all reactions with a hijacker or hijackers should be non-confrontational, non-aggressive and compliant. Hijackers are generally as nervous as their victims and are likely to begin shooting without much provocation or reason.

What to do in the event of a hijack situation:

  • Do not get out of your car and confront the other driver.

  • Try to note any features of the other driver, the type and condition of the vehicle, and the vehicle registration number.

  • If you suspect you have been a victim of a potential hijacking, drive to the nearest police station or service station.

  • If you have a cellphone, report the incident as soon as you can.

  • Make a full report to the police as soon as possible.

    Tips to prevent driveway hijackings:

  • Install adequate lighting and make sure outside lights can be remotely controlled from inside the premises and via the burglar alarm system.

  • Consider installing demand lighting which is activated by a motion detector.

  • Cut down bushes in and around the entrance to your home or business - these act as good hiding places for would-be criminals.

  • Increase your view - try not to have high walls and tall hedges that obscure your view of your property.

  • It is preferable to have automatic gates installed so that you don't have to leave the safety of your vehicle to access your premises.

  • The installation of a CCTV system is a very effective way to deter would-be hijackers from targeting your property, as they know that their actions will be monitored and recorded.

  • Programme all emergency telephone numbers into your cellphone (eg: your security company, South African Police Service, ambulance service and fire department).

I cannot believe what I have just read! Do you realise just how sick SA has become? People shouldn't be advised to co-operate with hijackers. What are the damn cops doing??? Counting their cash from armed robberies and hijackings. SA needs a doctor quick!

mondeor station is a joke. 2 nights ago we apprehended a car thief. The thieves accomplices got away. They parked their (probably stolen) citi golf about 1 km from the place. I called twice. 1st flying squad and then mondeor station. Gave them the ref number from the call center( 3155509) and nothing happened. Locals told me the thiefs came by at midnite to fetch their golf and drove off.

As I write this I am listening to a radio show in Ireland on Newstalk 106, where a discussion is taking place on South Africa as a tourist destination - they are laughing about the crime stats, and playing down the dangers of SA. Talk is concentrated on the good value of SA as a destination.
They even mentioned the excellent surfing available in Jefferson Bay (sic)!
I emailed to suggest they be more honest, but they ignored it...

...isn't this exactly what the ANC criminal syndicates want us to do?
They know very well that the criminal police are useless degenerates..

The anc have also directed the police to act with impunity and ignorance when confronted by a white victim. They are ordered and taught to act even less stupid than they already are when white taxpayer comes asking for help…

    “together we can do more”-

    Crime
    Ignorance
    Corruption
    Destruction
    Stealing
    Raping
    Murdering…

    ..the list goes on..

Thanks anc.. thank you for fucking everything up which we thought was un-up-fuckable

what guarantee can the "advisor" give that those thieving bastards will spare your life? the only guarantee is that if more victims hand over their car willingly, the more criminals will queue up to exploit the generosity.

Viking, it starts with denials and evolves to the point where they blame whitey for everything that went wrong. Can we do anything about it? No, but continue to write about your opinions and cautions so that at least you won’t be in the line of fire when the blame is dished out. Who is going to lose here? Not us.

I knew a guy who, when confronted with a black hand coming through his car window at a stop light, quickly rammed up the window which jammed the black arm firmly stuck in the window, and then pulled off dragging the scumbag alongside the car for a few blocks!!

What I find amazing, is the number of white people in SA who simply accept all of this crime as normal....saying this, I can hardly speak. I left years ago.
My hope is that every white person who has a real desire to leave SA, will get a chance to do so...

You know folks, foreign readers seeing this just do not believe it is for real..

Today I went past a lighting shop to peruse for some light fittings for a new house I'm completing and by pure chance ran into the owner, a Saffa called Imran who left Mnandi 10 years ago. While in the shop within 5 minutes, I was introduced to two other fellows, coloured tilers, also Saffas from the Kaap nogal, who'd been in Aus for 7 years. They had thriving businesses in SA, dropped the lot, and shipped their know how and entrepreneurship to Aus. Both are not white so this crap that only whites are leaving must end. The tiler has a thriving tile shop. They approached us because they detected our accent. It was nice talking to them in our Engelsman Afrikaans. This happens all the time. Every single day, there is not one new Saffa we do not run into. We went to the house, found out the balustrading people is a Zim lad and a Saffa, also 7 years in the country. Then we met some Kiwis who are doing the final painting and found out our neighbours three houses away are Saffas too. Bleeding heck! All in 5 hours. We just got back from the coast. It is off topic but shows what a tremendous loss expats are to the nation. It is all races. And lots of them. Yep, there are people that have decided that a handbook on how to avoid being shot in the head by a hijacker is a bridge too far.
