Come on down sucke..um, sports fans. Have a wander through Hillbrow or Berea. It is especially beautiful at night. The organising committee guarantees your complete safety.
World Cup organisers last night claimed they can "100 per cent guarantee" the safety of England fans travelling to South Africa next year.
Danny Jordaan, chief executive of the South African 2010 World Cup organising committee, insisted he was not worried about security despite the country's appalling crime and murder record.
Jordaan said: "There are two separate issues here - society crime and event security. When teams come over, we know where they will train, play and where the fans will be arriving and staying. (as long as you stay in your hotel and in the stadiums, yep, you'll be fine)
"I guarantee that you will be 100 per cent safe. (well then, there you have it, his assurances are as good as gold. Book those tickets)
"Tourism must be linked to security and safety. Last year we had 9.1 million tourists. There were the usual things like petty theft and we had 17,000 incidents of those sort but not one major incident. (Seventeen thousand incidences of petty theft, bah..is that all? No major incidents? No tourists killed? LIE. I can just see the Poms lapping up this info)
"We have great experience of organising tournaments. We have organised 22 major events in 15 years with no problems at all. (not "we". Soccer SA has organised squat in the last 10 years)
"From the rugby world cup [1995] to football tours [1996 - African Cup of Nations?] we have gained experience." (it's been a while and the country has decayed somewhat since then wouldn't you say?)

3 Opinion(s):
If he is WILLING AND ABLE to guarantee the safety and security of s specific group (in this case tourists), why doesn't he offer this very same privilege to ALL residents? This is an admission that the ANC is willingly turning the blind eye in order to "redress the imbalances of the past".
After all, without the votes of the criminals, the ANC won't even make it to become opposition party.
Amazing how tourists, supplying a one time income during the few weeks of the World Cup, are prioritized above the tax paying (white) people in the country.
Much like grabbing frantically for a bucket of water and ignoring the fountain behind you...
One of the underlying problems of the ANC government has always been the inability to see further into the future than the immediate situation.
It comes from the general mentality of Africans, honed to a sharp stake of incompetence over many generations - the old ant vs grasshopper anecdote?
Another fine example.
ok. Ok. OK! But suppose that by some remote, highly improbable chance some forget to turn left or right and find themselves in the former Point Road, Dump-by-the-Sea, and they are, eh, their safety is compromised, then WHAT!?
Oh, and they are English - Danny-boy gives a continental for the rest.
In that case, would they sue Danny? Or the LOC? Or the hosting cities? Or the SAPS? Or the SAfrican Government? Or Sepp? Or FIFA? Or Africa - since 'Africa's time has come', and 'Africa is the winner'?
Or all of the above?
