Following on from the post regarding the effect of integrating blacks into white suburbs, let's explore where we have come from and what we may do to ensure our survival.
It has almost become axiomatic to assume that segregation was a policy worthy of being reviled, and that somehow it was related to supremacy. Personally, in light of evidence that is coming to the fore and which has always been intuitive, I think it was a matter of survival.
Back when South Africa experienced Pass Laws and Group Areas, the number of blacks permitted to reside within a white area, as a domestic servant or otherwise, was well below 22% and this manifested as a peaceful existence, comparable to any European standard. This probably was the case until around the mid 1980's, or at least until the pass laws were abolished. Thereafter there was a greater flow of blacks through and within the white areas. Initially the effect would not have been felt, lulling us into believing that everything would be okay. However since 1994 things have changed.
Today it is easy to envision most households making use of a maid and a gardener, providing accommodation for at least the maid, which equates to a 20% black composition when added to the 4 white family members. Add to this the level of black residents that are legally residing within your suburb which could easily be anything between 20 - 80%, let's assume an average of 20%. We could now have levels of about 36%. Add to this the free movement of marauding black gangs and we could easily arrive at 50%, and this is conservative, which equates to a 1 in 3 chance of one of your family members being a victim. Some of the poorer formerly white areas will probably be closer to 80-100%, as will some townhouse complexes.
Therefore in order to prolong the inevitable means ensuring that the percentage of blacks within your neighbourhood remains low. This is probably best achieved through high priced gated communities that outlaw domestic servants residing on the property, although this is less effective in a boomed off area as you cannot restrict the free movement of blacks or stop residents from providing accommodation to their domestics. For those less fortunate, who do not have money, you are in a tough position as your neighbourhood is probably already being invaded. Also, the above ignores your having to mingle with blacks at work, shopping or generally going about your daily life outside of your neighbourhood.
To conclude, it is easy to see how segregation became a survival strategy, and in fact remains the only strategy for white survival, be it on the continent or in any neighbourhood under siege by blacks. My strategy of choice would be to suggest emigration, especially if you factor in the rate at which the black population is growing. Other than that, to sit around and do nothing is to invite the inevitable.

Well reasoned VI. As things are presently, without the changes necessary to fight the deterioration of South Africa (directly correlated with the ANC remaining in power) given the odds of probability, the question today is not "if" but "when" something bad will happen to you or a loved one.
A situation bound to worsen as the black population increases. That is perhaps the hardest pill to swallow about SA. We, who have lived in that country - including blacks - in relative peace and safety and therefore have a sense of reference to see the differences bemoan the fact that it is achievable and indeed possible to live safely in SA despite the masses of blacks - but as things stand, seems ever unlikely.
I need to clarify that the statistics are based on averages for a group. There will always be those in the tails (statistical outliers) that do not conform to the group average.
It must be pointed out, though, that blacks have always lived with their brethrens high propensity to commit violent crime. Not much has changed for them. The fortunate ones have experienced a temporary reprieve, as they moved to white areas, but ultimately that will be lost too. So from a priviledged blacks perspective we appear to be a bunch of whingers.
Sleepless nights are a reality. What irks me is that an acquaintance of mine, who was involved in all sorts of illegal behaviour,(no he does not have a criminal record) made himself a fair whack of illegal boodle and as his sister lives in Australia, he and his black wife and children (he is white) are of to live in merry Australia. I consider myself a hardworking law abiding citizen (fool) and I am stuck on this continent. So what are the criteria to leave this place? Steal a little, they call you thief, steal a lot and they call you (and treat you like a ) KING! That is the reality. I will sell my slightly used, fully functional kidney to get my children out though. Any offers!!!!!!!

Most servants quarters are disgusting little rooms, which no person should be allowed to cook their food in, never mind have the boyfriend or husband moving in as well, which is what usually happens. Then the maid gets pregnant and you have maid, boyfriend/husband and baby living in this unsanitary environment. To them it's normal, to us it's disgusting.
We should get rid of all servants quarters, and never build them again in future. It's difficult to convert a servant's room into something else, the whole structure has to be changed, so it's better to tear the damn thing down and pave over the ground, along the same principle that a lot of people fill up their swimming pools and pave them over because they give too much hassle. Once you have a maid's room your piece worker will be forever on at you for a room to stay, because they don't like commuting and who can blame them for not wanting to get into a black taxi but that's their problem, and whites don't get free accommodation from their employers either.
Even a squalid room will guarantee the ugliest maid a boyfriend, as they are all looking for free rooms to stay where they can screw more blacks into existence.
If you must have a maid, keep everything locked up, and don't let them into your cupboards. The maid can do the washing and ironing but you put the stuff away yourself. For the rest, there is the vacuuming and the cleaning, but don't let a maid do your cooking, that's how you get flu and god knows what else.
Keep the servants quarters under padlock and key until you demolish it. Empty servants quarters are ideal places for burglars to hide.
