The ANC regime has never felt it necessary to register emigrants or temporary expats before but now they have come up with an initiative to list everyone who lives outside the country - on a voluntary basis (as if they could force you). If you feel inclined to let the South African government know your whereabouts, you can do so by clicking here.
The Department of Foreign Affairs offers a voluntary registration service for South African citizens that are travelling or residing abroad.
This service is provided in the event there is a need to contact you to offer urgent advice on a natural disaster or civil unrest or a family emergency.
The information submitted by a South African citizen via the ROSA Online Registration form may be used by the Department of Foreign Affairs:
- to contact South African citizens and their families; for any other reasonable purpose, as may be deemed appropriate,
- to ensure the protection and well-being of South African citizens abroad and in order to provide them with the necessary assistance; and
- with due regard to any South African citizen’s right to privacy pursuant to South African law.

Make sure you register your real details: it would be an awful waste of time for them when they send their mates to loot your house while you're overseas, only to find that you gave them a fake address.
It'll also let them know that you're too far away to notice the reissue of your passport, but with a different photo in it, to someone desperately from India desperately trying to get into the UK...
