The one-time political freedom movement has turned to violence and intimidation as it tries to retain power
A campaign of violence and intimidation has been unleashed by South Africa’s ruling African National Congress against its breakaway rival, the Congress of the People (Cope), in the run-up to next month’s election.
Cope was formed in a gale of enthusiasm last December and was soon claiming more than 500,000 members but quickly found its meetings disrupted by ANC activists, often wielding knives, knobkerries (Zulu clubs) and iron pipes.
In KwaZulu-Natal, with its solid Zulu support for Jacob Zuma, the ANC leader, Cope leaders decided not to risk holding meetings. When its chairman Mosiuoa “Terror” Lekota did hold a rally there, few dared attend.
The ANC government has withdrawn the bodyguards to which Lekota, as a former defence minister, was entitled. This followed the kidnapping and beating of one of them. Lekota, 60, is challenging the decision in the courts, saying: “Every time I go to a mass meeting it is a dangerous situation and the police are not adequate protection.”
He has also accused ANC leaders, his former colleagues in government, of “thriving on political hate-speech and encouraging the hatred of and the killing of Cope leaders”.
Another alarming development is the use of veterans of the ANC’s armed wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe (“Spear of the Nation”) to “mobilise” support for the ANC, though many of the young men in army fatigues claiming to be veterans are too young to have played any part in the antiapartheid struggle.
It has been announced that these “war vets” will be stationed around polling booths at election time.

Sunday Times: Special Report: Farms collapse as land reform fails.
- Twenty top crop and dairy farms in the Eastern Cape, bought for R11.6 million and returned to a Kokstad community, are now informal settlements;
- A once-thriving potato farm in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands is now a makeshift soccer field (well, at least that's something that's ready for 2010);
- Ten thousand people given back 8,000ha of prime fruit and macadamia farms in Limpopo are crippled by R5 million debt;
- A former multimillion rand tea estate in Magoebaskloof in Limpopo has become an overgrown forest;
- More than five tons of a macadamia nut crop on a reclaimed Limpopo farm was so poor that it was dumped into the Levubu river;
- A R22 million irrigation system built by the government to supply water to new farmers in KwaZulu-Natal lies unused.
Acting chief land claims commissioner Andrew Phela said land reform was the fault of apartheid destroying black peoples' will to work.
"It is precisely this culture of labour that was destroyed by apartheid in our people. In fact, it made them hate labour in all its forms because for them it was not voluntary. This aspect of land reform and restructuring of dignity is never understood."

According to evolution scientists it will take 7 million years for Africans to reach the same stage of evolution as whites. Define black African. Bantu people, black Africans originate from west Africa. Egypt is Arab and certainly NOT black. The civilization you refer to is Egyptian and it is true Greeks borrowed from them many things but all knowledge was a two-way street. Egyptians also took from Greeks.
Blacks from west Africa certainly had NOTHING to do with Egyptian or Greek civilization.
Archaeological evidence has shown beyond a doubt that the Egyptian kingdom was founded by whites. Fortunately the mummies, so well preserved, still show people with blue and green eyes, and blond and red hair. Not traits of black people.
Two huge obelisks placed at the border between Egypt and Nubia, the black country south of Egypt, stated that ANY blacks caught beyond that point, inside Egypt, without an Egyptian military escort would be executed.
Now it is true that in later times the Egyptian people started to interbreed with black slaves and so the Egyptian race became darker skinned. It was, however, about this time that the white Greeks invaded and took control.
We know the Greeks were white from the accounts of the Romans, who described them as blue eyed and "golden" (blond) haired.
As for it taking "7 million years" for blacks to reach the white man's level of evolution, I believe this to be highly optimistic. If, in the thousands of years they've had to develop anything worthy of mention, they've produced nothing other than oral fairy tales, then what make anyone believe that another 7 million years would make a difference?
Even the the currently touted Timbuktu "black civilization" story is just that, a myth. Strange how all the texts are written in Arabic! No mention made of the Arabs who came there and brought a measure of civilisation to that part of Africa.
The white race has lead the world in all aspects of science, technology, art, literature and medicine and still continues to do so. There is something special about the white race, something God given that was denied those who stand outside of our civilisation so that we will always lead.
No amount of lies and false propaganda against us will ever change that and the dark races know this. That is why, when they are in dire straits, they come before the only race in the world who can help them. I mean, how often do you see the African states going to the Arabs or the Chinese or Indians for that matter? No, by far they point their begging bowls towards the West for a free handout. The same happens when they want to flee the African hellholes they have created.

I am an archaeologist and this is news to me! the Egyptians were very much their own race and looked a lot like they do today except a bit less Arabic. they weren't that pale though, they made fun of the Cretans getting sunburnt!
Why is it that readers like Black Coffee hammer on the same old drum about blacks being able to build pyramids thousands of years ago when it's abundantly clear that Bantus are nowhere near the agrarian stage yet, never mind being able to build anything other than mud huts?

Which leads other races to only one logical conclusion: exterminate them by deprivation. Total deprivation is the only language blacks know and understand. The Afrikaners were way, way too kind to blacks, building them hospitals and schools and giving them jobs on farms. They have ruined the hospitals and schools and farms so it was all in vain.
White nations, stop allowing blacks into your countries, which they will destroy just as surely as they destroy any form of civilisation. Don't allow any more blacks into Australia or New Zealand. Will the Scandinavians also please realise that imports of Africans will cause their downfall. Black is the colour of evil.

ja, and albert einstein was a zulu too, right?
On ancient Egyptians I based my statement on: having seen at various art museums replicas of mummies which show that physical features of ancient Egyptians and Nubians were indistinguishable. I also based it on scholarly works on the subject by Molefi Kete Asante of Temple University in US and Cheikh Anta Diop, a Senegalese historian who in 1970s did a lot of work to try and counter distortions that European "experts" put out for centuries. After all, the latter always felt the need to believe in the lie of "white supremacy" in order to justify colonialism, land expropriation, apartheid, etc.
I did just read the article in Sunday Times referred to by second anonymous poster. That is quite disturbing that land reform had the results they described, I mean what else can one say about formerly productive farms turning into squatter camps? I think there is some sense to what the land claims commissioner says about the apathy to labor that apartheid entrenched, because blacks then had to work hard all their lives in exchange for wages that were peanuts in best terms. Still, it brings the question to my mind - is the government ensuring that black people to whom it turns over farms will actually WORK the farms? It seems to me Zimbabwe's great undoing was not doing that and simply turning over land to people who had neither the interest nor knowledge in how to keep the farms going.

If only the farms were given over (if they have to be at all) to those who worked on them - maybe they would have some chance to make them productive, but it doesn't seem to work that way.
In Europe and the US farmers are coddled (and heavily subsidised) precisely because they are needed so badly - maybe SA should have the same attitude. (and no, I am not a farmer)

The North Africans before the Arab migration into North Africa were the people who became known as "Gauls" since the first millenium BC! They then migrated into Spain and eventually southern France, with the Celtic Gauls being squeezed out of today's France (into Brittany and Britain) by the arrival of the first Caucasians (Franks) to arrive in France!
The "Black Africans" Black Coffee refers to never got further North than the southern edge of the Sahara, where they still admit the mountainside houses they live in were BUILT BY THE ANCIENTS - THE ANCIENTS (they openly admit) WERE WHITE PEOPLE WHO LIVED THERE BEFORE THE ARRIVAL OF THE ARABS!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the southern edge of the ancient sea (Sahara) and the locals were open about the whites who originally inhabited the area as far south as Timbuktoo!
Funny how some of us spend years researching such things and linking them to geological and environmental fact, while a few fools just open their mouths and propagate propaganda lies!

I know it is probably a bitter pill to swallow, but name them...air con, cars, cell phones, PCs, the very technology of email you so conveniently use to distribute your bullsh... clothes, (reading)glasses, window panes (keeping the elements outside without hampering light or view, amazing...), science, health care, infrastructure, pasteurization, telescopes, space travel, weapons (like the AK-47 every other black 'veteran' carries in there neverending mission of f...g up the continent, sorry, I mean fighting for liberty and justice) medicine, computer games, ball games (yes my friend, soccer that blacks love and live by was invented by da white man, eish...) electricity, hydrolics, nuclear fusion...do I really need to continue?

I am no anthropologist, so pardon my ignorant comment, but apart from the clay pot, the clay wall and animal skin loin cloths, the only notable invention by blacks were when an advanced Zulu warrior in the 1800's shortend the shaft of a spear and extended the blade to improve close combat.
I always smile when I think of Mugabe telling the world that he does not need the West, or the white man at all.
He does this speaking over a Japanese microphone, with Swiss glasses on his nose, driving a German car, brandishing American bullet proof glass, with a Korean engine, wearing clothes from Italy, shoes from Australia, socks from Sweden, with a Korean cell phone. He goes back to his palace where every bit of luxury comes from the west.
Even the money he stole from his own people to finance his life of luxury is a Western invention. If blacks had any dominance in current affairs on their own inventions, without evil Western influence, Mugabe would be trading 600 cows for 300 bulls, and send his criminals to steal them back as soon as darkness settles on his kraal.
No Black Coffee, you are soooo mistaken if you want to convince yourself (because you certainly won't anyone else) that blacks in any way are superior to whites. They never were and never will be.
So, my literate black friend, (literacy and how it is measured today originates from the white man, by the way) next time you switch on your PC to use email (to WRITE email and to READ email) you think of the white man you so dispise and admit to yourself that you are sooo oy\jealous that you are not white.
Let me not even begin with what happens to every single country in Africa who gains independence from the evil white colonials....
You can argue any which way you want, but Africa is in better shape because of the white man's inventions and involvement. And where there is chaos and destruction, famine, hunger, oppression and death, look no further than the black leaders governing that (once thriving under colonial rule, no falling apart with decay and neglect) country.

Greg, there was a half-Jewish guy a century or so ago who took up the equivalent of blogging for that time. His name was Marcel Proust. Go and read all three volumes. If you can master French and read all his works in the original, so much the better. When you have finished reading all of Proust's works, come and comment here again.
