Earlier this week it was announced that the first stadium for WC 2010 was complete and ready to go. Turns out, this was a lie or, as South Africa WC 2010 officials say, a 'miscommunication.' Heh heh..
Not all the renovations at Pretoria's Loftus Versfeld stadium are complete. In fact, they are so not complete, the officials do not even know when the renovations will be finished. None of the other ten stadia scheduled for use at WC 2010 are complete either.

It all hinges on who's lying, and so far, it ain't Snowden.

Is anyone surprised the stadiums are not ready yet? Given that black africans can barely build mud huts a complicated task such as a stadium must have presented quite a challenge for them. Got a feeling WC2010 will be a huge flop.
As usual. Ignorance.
Construction companies building some of our stadia are the same people you praise. The ones that build Airport Terminals in Dubai, Hotel Towers etc. Ever heard of M&R?
All stadia remain on schedule for 2009 completion. Green Point has already cut 96 days off its initial contractual completion date. I don't see you reporting that.
I don't see you reporting that four stadia will be ready for 2010 18 months before kick off.
I don't see you reporting when the arch of Moses Mabhida stadium was completed!
I don't see you reporting that Green Point stadium will be completed 6 months ahead of kick-off. Beijing's Olympic stadium only four months before the Olympic Games.
I don't see you reporting that Ellis Park works were mostly finished last year with the pitch just about complete.
I don't see you reporting that even though PE was dumped from the Confederations Cup in June 2009, it will host the British Lions June 16 2009.
Its disgusting that you undermine the tremendous work being done and the progress being made and simply reduce it to a "small blog post" focusing on a venue that needed only minor upgrades!!
Of course this is not surprising.
Your life must be awful.
@ PSA..
Take the time to actually understand facts and READ before you comment. Here's a fact; almost ALL the stadia are behind schedule, it has been admitted as such. It was the organising committee that announced Loftus was ready when heh heh, it was not.
Since there are less that 500 days to go which translates into 16 months roughly AND NO stadiums are ready, how is it possible that 4 stadiums will be ready 18 months ahead of time? Try doing the maths or is that 'African maths' just like African time. The ability to bend time seems to be an African trait.
Who cares that this pole or that arch has been finished? Fifa needs the pissing things complete and functioning in time for the Confederations cup this year - NOT NEXT YEAR! - and at this rate few will be ready but, like you say, we're the ignorant ones. Stupid comment fella.
Correction: 16 not 18 months, as Loftus, Royal Bafokeng, Free State stadium and Ellis Park complete their final touched by end of Feb. Technically 15 months.
Why are ALL stadia behind schedule? Did you ask Andrew Fanton? Talk to the engineer working on Mbombela Stadium? Gone on site in PE to talk to the contractors?....
Well I have. I have also been following the progress since day 1.
All stadia will be READY this year!
I've seen visual progress.
At what rate? Provide the evidence or visit http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=378
Ok, I got the months wrong, but all stadia remain on schedule for a 2009 finish.
Were you there when Green Point moved its completion date forward? When stadium kept meeting its milestones?
FIFA needs it functioning by the Confederations Cup and yes the stadia used for that event will be ready soon. Whats the issue?
Bloody ignorant.Take the time to follow the progress. Get informed.
Hey PSA, you've come on here and made two contradictory statements. Which one must we believe?
'Mostly' finished is not finished. You're mostly an idiot. 18 months, 16 months, 15 months..hey, they're all the same huh? What's a month or six in missing a deadline?
Fu*k ready THIS year. They all need to be ready for the Confed Cup which is June 14th. PE was knocked out because it was a dud and the others just entailed renovation like Ellis Park, Loftus etc.
The whole scenario has been a monumental embarrassment and I should know. I worked for some of the biggest construction companies in SA including Murray & Roberts, Group 5 and LTA as a site engineer so spare me the name dropping. I've run huge sites, I KNOW what is possible and I know when people are being bullshitted and from what I've seen, a lot of BS is flying around.
Move along now. We'll talk , if you dare after the deadlines are missed ok?
People of South Africa.
I personally don't give a crap whether they are ready or whether this event will be a success or failure. Either way, South Africa loses big time.
We cannot afford this. Period.
This money is desperately needed in our schools and hospitals, instead we have once again gone the banana republic way and spent billions on the vanity of our politicians, so that they may wine and dine and rub shoulders with some International hob knobs while 98% of the population cannot afford to watch the game.
And when they recover from their hangover, the taxpayer will foot the bill for a loss making event and be stuck with stadiums that no one can afford to rent.
So next time you rush of with your hi tech camera to photograph the progress on the stadiums, do pas some local hospitals on route and please do also post some Pics of the construction , improvements and the happy smiley faces you find there.
I will be watching your site with bated breath
