Criminals do not fear police

When criminals do not fear the police and, indeed attack police, something is very wrong in the land down south.

Two police officers shot
Two police officers were shot and wounded while on a Sunday morning routine patrol in Bothasig in Cape Town, Western Cape police said.

The 21-year-old reservist and a 24-year-old constable were in a critical condition in hospital, Superintendent Andrè Traut said.

"They spotted two suspicious-looking males in Elbrecht street at 2.45am and when they approached, the two suspects opened fire," he said.

The female reservist was shot in the head while the constable was shot in his head and chest.

"The suspects then disarmed both members and fled with the SAPS patrol vehicle, taking the two 9mm firearms with," he said.

The patrol vehicle was later found on the N7 freeway near Du Noon.

Cop (36) shot dead
A 36-year-old police officer was shot dead by unidentified robbers in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg, police said on Sunday.

"The off-duty officer and his wife were dropping off his mother at extension five when they were approached by two armed men who instructed them to go back into the house at 11pm on Saturday," said spokesperson Constable Edwin Ntsheo.

When inside the house, they then shot the constable and took his wife's wedding ring, three cellphones and undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene, he said.

No one has since been arrested.

Police were investigating a case of house robbery and murder, said Ntsheo.
