South African police arrested a 37- year-old man after finding him decapitating a body in the front yard of his house, the South African Press Association reported, citing a police spokesman.
The headless bodies of three other men, believed to be neighbours, were found in shallow graves at the man's home with their heads in plastic bags nearby, the Johannesburg-based news agency cited Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela as saying.
Police believe the victims had gone to the house in Eastern Cape province to buy liquor.
Policemen shot the arrested man in the leg after he tried to attack them with a pickaxe, it said. They had been called to the house by community members after the man allegedly killed his victim in a public street.
The arrested man was not identified in the report.
