FF Plus lays complaint with human rights commission

PRETORIA - The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) has laid a complaint with the Human Rights Commission against an East Rand police inspector.

“The complaint was laid a couple of hours ago,” said party spokesman for safety and security Pieter Groenewald on Friday.

This followed an incident in which a black police inspector from Tembisa allegedly scolded victims of an armed robbery and attempted hijacking, according to a Beeld newspaper report .

The inspector refused to arrest a black suspect at the scene of the crime in Kempton Park on Monday night, it was alleged.

The officer also allegedly refused to allow white officers the opportunity to search the suspects’ car calling them “white dogs”.

The officer told the robbery victims that it was time they left the country and refused to open a case.

Police spokesman Eugene Opperman said that allegations “of that nature were being investigated”.

“It is being investigated by a senior officer. We have to follow the labour relations act and the act of the police service. It is getting all the serious attention it deserves,” he said.

The party also requested the Minister of Safety and Security Nathi Mthethwa to expel the officer.

“ These actions of a member of the police smacks of naked racism and undermines President Kgalema Motlanthe’s assurances given yesterday Thursday at Fedusa (Federation of Unions in SA) that the government will address crime in South Africa to stop emigration taking place.

“These kinds of actions make white people decide to emigrate,” said Groenewald adding that the officer’s comments constituted hate speech.
