It’s a lovely sunny day in Cape Town, and you and your significant other decide to take a trip to the waterfront for a nice lunch or a bit of shopping.
But then your significant other (husband) says to you, “I dare you to steal a car”
What would your response be?
I would think my partner was just joking. Perhaps laugh, or tell him he is an idiot.
However, Linda Sybil Walter, a 42 year-old German mother, claimed that she stole a car from the V&A Waterfront "because her husband dared her to".
Yes, and we all believe that.
Walter was sentenced to an effective six months in prison, and her husband Ulrich received the same sentence – both on the charge of car theft.
According to iol,the incident happened when the car's owner, Elardie Mostert, had parked her Renault Clio at the Waterfront in March last year.
When she came out of the shopping centre her car was gone, and was later found parked under a cover in the backyard of the Walters home.
I can’t believe the husband actually wanted his wife to take the rap for it but it seems his plan didn’t work out and he has been handed a sentence without testifying.
The judge rejected the claim by the defence that the theft happened on the spur of the moment and said the incident had taken some planning by both partners.
And if it simply was just a dare - then she has to be one of the dumbest wives in the world!
