Another cash van heist

'Tis the season to be shootin, tootin', lootin', hee haa!

---

A Fidelity security guard is in a serious condition after being shot in the neck during a cash-in-transit heist outside a Table View supermarket.

Shoppers and staff ran for cover as several shots were fired when a group of men in a white BMW attacked the Fidelity guard.

The robbers allegedly grabbed the guard as he left the shop with an undisclosed amount of cash before shooting him in the neck.

Table View police spokesperson Constable Roeline Hermanus said they had received reports that four Fidelity guards had been attacked during a pick-up at Pick n Pay in Boydegoede Circle.
Hermanus said the guards got out of the van when they were attacked by four men in a white BMW.

"One guard was shot in the neck and the (robbers) made off with two firearms and the Pick 'n Pay pick up case which they took from the guards," she said.

The robbers fled in the BMW.

No arrests had yet been made, Hermanus said.

Shocked witnesses said they heard shots and screams before they ran for cover.

Paul September, an asthmatic, said he was in an adjoining shop when the robbers attacked.

"I heard the shots and the screams but didn't see anything," said September. "This is terrible."
"I always thought this area was safe, but of late it has become a crime capital. "Almost every week now we hear about robberies and hijackings."

Mike Grunder, who owns a nearby video shop, said he heard the shots but when he arrived the robbers had already fled.

"This circle is becoming very dangerous," Grunder told the Argus. "There are always a lot of labourers wandering around here looking for work, and because of that element (being a common sight) people are left off-guard.

"I hope the police step up patrols in this area. "We are not safe here anymore."
