Murder of ballerina Esteé van Rensburg: trial from Oct 20 2008

From Oct 20 2008 in the Pretoria High Court, the trial of a man accused of the murder of Faerie Glen ballerina Esteé van Rensburg (left) will commence..

This was announced by her mom Mrs Linda van Rensburg on her Facebook blog. She writes that the murder case of a man arrested for her daughter's murder is 'not an easy time for us as a family. "Hopefully we can put this finally behind us when he is judged. Pray for us please.'

On March 25 2008, Esteé van Rensburg, exquisite, very dedicated to her strenuous work as a ballerina at the KMAD Dance Company in Pretoria, was found murdered - shot through the head on her parents' bed at their Faerie Glen, Pretoria home.

The motive remains deeply mysterious: Her handbag, cellphone, her mother's jewellery and other valuable items in the house had not been taken.

Her last SMS sent to her vacationing parents on that Sunday had read : "Die son het vandag uitgekom wat beteken nuwe lewe. Jesus het vandag opgestaan. Prys die Here. Veilig ry vandag. Lief vir julle, baja! Mwa". "The sun came out today which means new life. Jesus rose today. Praise the Lord. Drive safely today. Love you lots! Mwa

Distraught housekeeper Irene Molefe, pictured here, found the murdered Afrikaner ballerina.

Police forensic examinators also confirmed shortly thereafter that the devout Christian girl was not raped. This news came as a huge relief to the family, who had feared that she may also have suffered such deeply humiliating torture at the hands of the murderer (s) -- because newspaper reports had described how she had been found 'half-naked' on the bed...

After her murder, the grieving mom also joined the crime-fighting organisation in South Africa which wants to bring back the death penalty. This brought a critical reaction from members of the then-ANC cabinet.

Very tragic. Isn't this the case of the security guard for the complex, where she resided, who attacked the young woman?

It's possible. Hopefully the poor parents will now also be able to find out why nothing was robbed, too. There's very little about this case which makes any sense. Killing a ballerina is akin to crushing a butterfly. It's just not human.

Haven't you noticed how victims of crime in South Africa are ALWAYS described as "they wouldn't hurt a fly" or "he was the kindest person on earth" or "she did so much for other people". I, for one, am practicing my farting in public, scratching my crotch in public, using fowl language, bullying anyone sick and disabled, stealing from any beggars in the street, and generally projecting an appearance of a LOSER in the New! And Improved! South Africa.
