As the worm turns..

Oh sweet. For months, years even, Cosatu, the ANCYL, the Commies have stood by their man, the Great Showerhead himself, Jacob Zuma. Mention his name in vain and you were met with a barrage of insults and threats.

People shouted that they were prepared to kill for the Chosen One. That there would be no discussion about his heavenly-ordained right of ascension to the highest office in the land. He was The One. Mbeki suffered the humiliation of being fired for going against the Great LaZooma.

Fancy then that one of the chief protagonists, Cosatu head Vavi seems to have tempered his adoration for Machine-Gun Man and now states that no person should be placed above the interests of The Party. Que?! What's changed? And can we be certain that Zuma will be the next president?

Vavi, who famously predicted that the ascension of Jacob Zuma the ANC throne was “an unstoppable tsunami”, appears to be reconsidering his attitude of hero worship.

Vavi was addressing Cosatu shop stewards in Johannesburg when he noticed a large number of “100% Zuma” t-Shirts. Perhaps he also noticed that there were no “100% Vavi” t-shirts. Hell there weren’t even any “50% Vavi” shirts.

So he stunned his audience with condemnation of the Zuma t-shirts. “We must talk about these problems of leaders in our organisations, who, because of power given to them, think they are bigger than the organisation. We must talk about people that have grown bigger than the organisation.”

To be fair he also laid into Mosiuoa Lekota and Mbhazima Shilowa for hero worshipping ThaboMbeki. Still, makes you wonder if the worm is turning …
