ATM robbers shoot two police officers

These very organized and well trained gangs have become fearless as this crime has now reached epidemic proportions.

Two police officers have been shot and injured today in Soweto after seven men blew up an automated teller machine, Gauteng police said.

Captain Mpande Khoza said the men took an undisclosed amount of money from the ATM at a petrol station on the Old Potchefstroom Road before exchanging gunfire with two patrolling officers around 2am.

The men riddled the police officers’ vehicle with bullets before making their getaway.

"The female officer was shot in her leg and face whilst the male officer was injured by the shattered glass of the vehicle’s windscreen."

The two policemen were taken to a nearby hospital. No arrests were made.
