Bystander killed after robbery

A woman was killed after a robbery at a cash loan business in Flagstaff on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.

"At about 12.30pm three men in their mid-twenties, armed with guns went into Status Finance office - in the main street - and took R4 000 and 42 cheques amounting to R41 000," said police spokesperson Captain Mduduzi Godlwana.

"After that they went outside and fired shots to disperse the people who were around. A stray bullet hit a 30-year-old woman who was cooking in a caravan nearby," he said.

The woman was hit in back of the head and died on the scene. The men jumped into a bakkie that was waiting in a back street and fled the scene.

Police have opened a murder and an armed robbery investigation.
